Hot Mirror!
I have a concern with the interior mirror on my 2003 Z06. I've only just noticed that when I start the engine, the mirror gets stupid hot, but after driving for +/- five minutes, it cools back down to ambient temperature.
It's the back of the mirror, closest to the windscreen, on either side that gets hot. It does not get hot in the center. The courtesy lights on either side work correctly (they aren't stuck on) and the console illumination lamp on the RHS works correctly.
BTW - this is not a self-dimming mirror.
Before I make a project out of this, i thought i'd ask to see if this is a known issue. The mirror gets so hot that it's uncomfortable to touch it for more than two seconds and it's downright painful to touch it for more than three seconds. i'd like to figure out what is going on, BEFORE the smoke is released.

Thanks in advance!

A couple of years ago. a friend of mine had his driver-side side-view mirror on his C5 spontaneously catch fire in his garage in the middle of the night without his knowledge. The car was not running and he had not driven it in a couple of days. He came out in the morning to find the fire had self-extinguished but, before that, it had melted the mirror, part of the door skin and front fender. He was very lucky it did not burn the house down with his wife and him sleeping inside. I put in extra smoke alarms in my garage right next to my C5 shortly after that.
