Stall on a daily driver?
I've heard a few things about stalls on a C5.
-They can totally wake up your A4
-Are necessary if you are going with anything but a really small cam
-I've heard differing reports on how they affect stock daily drivability. With some people saying their wife drives in a car with one and doesn't even know it's there. Others say they slip and feel terrible for DD.
I'm looking to probably replace my transmission soon with a built 4l60 and in the near future adding heads and cam of some kind.
My goal is a moderate 400rwhp, which I've read can be achieved on small cam/head combos (the ones small enough to function well on the stock converter) so I'm not necessarily sold on a stall when it comes to adding a cam to the car.
But since my transmission will be getting work on it, I figured it might make sense to add a stall and to also switch from my 3.15 to 3.73 gears.
Here's my question. Say I went with a 3200 stall from Yank, how will that affect my cars' manners as a daily driver? This car is my only means of transportation and I often have to drive around congested downtown areas, etc. So I feel like I need something that is pretty darn reliable from that perspective.
Likewise, I won't drag race this car at all nor will I ever launch it from a dead stop, will I still feel like the stall is advantageous in these driving conditions?
Thanks!
You'll find it more advantageous if you have a cam, since it allows your car to reach into the power band, especially from a dig. It does this by mutiplying torque to the tranny until it reaches a higher rpm.
I hope this helps, but I'm not very good at explaining this stuff. So I suggest calling around or talking with people who have done it.
