I'm looking for a c5 and was looking at getting a coupe but I found a 98 1 owner clean tiitle vert with 68K+ miles and I'm debating should i pull the trigger? Was realling looking for a coupe but for $10K thats a good price. I might be a little late though as i texted the seller and he has 2 buyers ahead of me.
Pics of the vert

Nothing beats a convertible...feels great driving it, everyone stares at it, and you can always put the top up and pretend its a coupe...especially for $10k...
At that price, just make sure its not a salvage title or a rebuild from an accident. Run a CarFax and check out the title.
If that deal falls through, I have thinking about selling my black on black '04 Z51 coupe. All options and both tops. Full service history and is in great shape. Just don't drive it much any more since the divorce. Too many memories. PM me for more details.
Agree! Particularly something as different as a vert vs. hardtop unless it somehow really doesn't matter to the buyer (to me, never a vert and never an auto). If it were really a great deal (rare without issues), I'd buy and flip it.
Spend the time to find what you want. Getting 'anything' sooner but not exactly what you want is usually a mistake. What you get you most likely have for a long time. So it should be what you want.

Looks like a very nice vert for the money, IF you do your homework regarding maintenance, accident history and a full check by a good tech. Don't get too excited until the car proves itself. Read the stickies at the top of the page for great info on C5's. Good luck!

Looks like a nice car based on the pics. It can't hurt to check it out and see if it is something you would like, but if you really want a coupe, you may want to think hard about whether you would really be happy with a vert.
I hear y'all on its not my first choice. While I do like verts i really wanted a coupe. I haven't gone to look at it yet as I'm waiting for the seller to get out of work. He lives an hour away. He did message me today saying that the person who was gonna buy it in cash was driving 3 hours away but didn't show up and said he couldn't get a loan. So he said $9500 and its mine. By the way its a 99 not a 98. He sent me pics of the title. When i asked if it was in his name he replied by saying it is still in the original owners name(husband & wife). The reason he explains for not changing it over is because the plates don't expire til Jan 2018. He purchased it over a month ago and his reason for selling is he's 52 very tall and overweight. He's willing to provide the phone number of the original owner to verify and the title has been signed over by both husband & wife. Now when i said i have the cash ready he then said he has another potential buyer. I don't know whether to believe this guy or not but i don't want to travel an hour distance to waste my time.
While i do prefer manual. I want an auto for the reason that i have trouble with my back and left leg due to an accident years back. Too much stop and go traffic, I rarely use the freeway.
Interesting that he's only had it a month. He could be flipping it, bought it really cheap. Or he bought it and found out it needs some work he's not willing to do. Or he's a fat bastard and can't fit in it, but I think a person would know they can't fit in a sports car before buying it. Or, or, or. Dozens of reasons to sell a car.
Write up a bill of sale if you go through with it, make sure he signs the bill of sale. If the previous owners signed over the title then their signatures will be on it.
Trust your gut. I say wait till what you want comes available, it doesn't seem like you have a good feeling about this.
Great deal for a Corvette vert...for ANY vert IMHO! Well worth an hours drive but probably already gone. You could make money on this one as a flip, probably up to 5 grand or more. And thats the truth!
Sometimes sellers dont switch the title into their name to preserve the "one owner" or "only 2 owners" as a selling point. Its not uncommon, BUT I think in most states you need to get the OWNER'S signature (in this case the PREVIOUS OWNER) to legally transfer the title to you...
I know its different from state to state, but you might want to call your tag & title place to understand the rules for your state.

I'll call my tax office to find out. It won't be until tomorrow though since they're closed already. I'll see if the vette is still for sale by then. If not oh well it wasn't meant to be.
Looking at the 130-u form and I see is that it does require a signature from the previous owner. I don't think I want to go through that hassle of getting a signature after I've bought the car. I got to go through the hassle of trying to change it to my name while this person has my money. Looks like I'm gonna pass. Thanks for all the help and suggestions

In ohio you only have 30 days to transfer title, or you have to pay a late fee. Technically, i'm pretty sure what you describe about the title is illegal. "open title" is signed by seller and not buy the buyer, and is probably not technically legal.
All that stuff varies state to state -- so just be cautious with the Title stuff -- and you may want to make sure the previous owner is OK with this transaction since on paper -- you are buying from THEM -- not the person who has the car now.
If you can work through the title stuff -- that would be a great buy if the car checks out.
you'd be able sell it for enough to cover the cost and taxes easily i'd think...
