I managed to squeeze 31.8 MPG out of my '02 on a recent road trip. For once, I was able to make a run down the 101/580 corridor without having to sit in traffic.
Havent duplicated that feat, and damn did it take discipline. MPH average was 72.4 according to the DIC.
I averaged 28.3 driving from Los Angeles CA to Milwaukee WI, with an average mph of 76.4, the car loaded full of luggage and household crud. I wasn't being careful at all, just gliding along at 80mph with the cruise locked in whenever traffic allowed. My wife was in tow with her BMW 318ti, lightly loaded, and could only muster a 26.8mpg rate! Of course at 80mpg the little bimmer is singing along at 4,000 rpm, while the ZO6 wasn't even breaking a sweat at 1,900 +/-
God bless you guys. I usually get about 13 to 14 mpg. Of course that is stop and go traffic w/ some fun on the pedal. I hope I can get that much on a road trip, that sounds great. The best I have been able to do was a little over 17 mpg.
I drive back & forth to Houston/Dallas quite often. My '98 coupe would usually get 30-32 mpg, depending on the winds. My Z06 though, only seems to get about 27 mpg. This is with the cruise set around 80.

Hey JW.....I wonder how well you would do with the cruise set at 120. :D
My last three trips totaled over 10,000 miles in a 2001 and averaged 24.5 with 40-50 sprints over 100MPH, at least 10 times to 120 and once to 138MPH. There was lots of passing on 2 lane roads in the 80-100 range. I didn't get this car because of the gas mileage!!! At 60 I get about 32, at 75 about 27-28MPG. Its quite impressive. Around town with a bit of interstate I usually average 17-18 without being too aggressive. :yesnod:
I usually average between 27-29 at a 75-80 mph cruise, but have seen greater than 30 on a single tank! Yes, these things are economy cars! Also someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they are also considered ultra low emissions? Granted, I didn't buy the car for either of these reasons, but it sure is nice to have a 400+HP car that can attain this.
I usually get 16-18 around town, and that's putting my foot in it on occasion.
I picked up the car from a dealer in MI, and drove it back to California. With about 1200 miles on the car, we got 28.8 MPG across Wyoming, with an average speed of 78.4 MPH. Two of us in the car, luggage, the works. The thing was filthy by that time too. I think we took out half the insect population in Michigan and Wisconsin:smash:
And yes, the DIC is telling me all this info. I've done a few hand calculations though, and the car's computer is accurate enough as far as MPG goes.
For my car anyway, the MPG sweet spot appears to be between 72 and 75 MPH. If you can keep it there without much variation, the car gets incredible mileage.

31.9 MPG from Wennemucca NV, to Concord CA, never going over 65MPH.
I have found the computer to be very accurate when tested using manual calculations.
If anyone ever asks why I got this car, I just tell them "At 28+ mpg on the highway, that's better mpg than a Toyota Camry V-6. So I can rationalize that I "had to" get this car to help the environment and do my part to stop our dependency on foreign oil.
Every time I have checked the mileage myself, the car's DIC has overstated the actual mileage by anywhere from .5 to about 2.5 mpg's. One could say that maybe I put a little more gas in the tank than the last time; yet, my mileage for the last 3 consecutive fill-ups was calculated manually and would have netted out these differences.
Even so, the mileage is excellent considering the performance of the car. Mileage is a function of horse power used.
