I just bought a Hurst shifter from a forum member and just took out my "factory" shifter. I have a few questions. I understand that in comparing the two that the Hurst's travel is less "short throw". But I was not thinking that it would actually be taller. Is my old shifter a shortened C5 shifter or what do I have? I am going to install the Hirst and see how I like it but am not sure if I will like it being so much tall and might cut and retread. Help me out here guys
Can you tell if it is a c5 or c6 shifter, I am not sure how to tell. I just put the new one in and it feels nice but it feels like my hand is half way up the dash, lol. I will drive it before I do anything.
It is definitely not from a c6. The c6 shifters are not threaded for the ****. They are held on with a set screw. So likely a c5 shifter with a few threads chopped off.
I can't see from the picture. Does your "stock" shifter have a keyway cut into the threads like the one on the Hurst? If it doesn't then it can possibly be a c6 shifter that has been cut down and threaded.
C5 shifters don't have the bend or the hole for the set screw. So I'm gonna change my final answer to you have a c6 shifter that has been shortened and threaded.....lol. sorry for the confusion.

It's definitely a cut down C6 shifter, threaded for an aftermarket **** - I have one just like it sitting in my garage. I did not get on with it, as the **** ended up further toward the rear than I liked. Did the same thing - shortening and rethreading - on a C5 shifter and it suits me better.
Yeah there is no key way, looks like I will be selling a c6 shifter lol. Thanks guys for clearing that up, after looking a lot closer you can see where it has been cut down
Having cut down 2 c5 shifters, I was thrown off by the angle, so I thought it was a C6, but then forgot about the lack of threads, however, neither of my shifters had that hole, so I agree with Chain as well. I cut mine from the bottom and the top. My current one is 2" shorter than stock, and the shift **** sits in the shift boot like an egg.
