I was wondering why the C5 Corvettes (C4's too actually) have the horizontal bars in the tail lights? I'm referring to these bars as shown below:
Are they supposed to function like reflectors? I'm guessing C6/C7's actually have reflectors somewhere and in the C4/C5 days they just stuck them in the tail lights and C3 on back it wasn't a requirement? That's my guess but was just curious if they might be for some other reason.
The bars are made up of small pyramids so that light entering the lens is sent back out acting as a reflector in case the driver forgets to turn them on at night or the bulbs fail, a safety design.

Interesting, I kind of thought as much as I looked real close at them and noticed they really show up when you shine a light on them. I'm not as familiar with the lights on the C6 or C7s, do they still have some form of that? Obviously they don't have the horizontal bars anymore, but not sure if they have a circle shaped one (C6) or trapezoid (C7) or something elsewhere.

I'm about 90% sure that C6 have it as a round reflector in the middle of the taillight. C7 Corvettes have a horizontal strip below each taillight.
