New wheels-transfering tpms?
Hi all-so my new wheels should be here tomorrow from keith at 1st rate. Taking it in to Discount Tire which is 20 miles away, as i talked to the manager and he was familiar with vettes. (2 other places are local and closer but they didn't seem like they knew how to jack one up so i went elsewhere). He asked me if i had my own jacking pads that i wanted to use, so i felt like he knew what to do which is good (even though i will definitely be watching). So, just trying to anticipate any problems with them transfering over the tpms from the old wheels (CCW's) to the new ones. Going to make sure that they transfer them to the corresponding wheels, and i will have my DIC dialed up to the tire pressure to make sure everything is working correctly once they are mounted (sorry-still getting used to driving around without a spare and only my flat repair kit!). Is there anything "vette specific" that i should know about the tpms transfer? I've found out in the last 3 months of owning our C5 that the knowledge i have gotten on here is ESSENTIAL to making sure things go smoothly and more importantly correctly as i work on it (this is the first time i'm having someone else turn a wrench on her, so just want to be sure!) Thanks all for your help-

Don't take a chance...get 4 new GM TPMS units and make sure the stamped dates are current...

Basically your question has been answered. Hopefully the shop does not damage your existing sensors should you just re-use them.

I recently had this done on a spare set of wheels. Had the sensors from my old wagon wheels transferred. Not Vette specific, but they did need to change out the little washers. When theu were previously installed, they were "pinched" a little too hard and stayed too compressed. They wouldn't seal properly againdt the newer wheels. No big deal as they had washers (the harder plastic type). Just slightly more work for them since they didnt realize until after they set the beads and tried to fill with air. Maybe mention to the tech to see if thast will be an issue for you too.

Just had Discount replace the TPMS in my 2003 Anniversary that was still carrying the OEM factory installed units. They absolutely knew what they were doing- cost was about $40 each.

got it-so, approximately what is the longevity of the sensors? Doing this tomorrow so i will be stuck with going to the stealership to get them, but i believe the PO put on new sensors when he put on the CCW's about 4 yrs ago? (i know the sensors are going to be big $$$$ at my chevy dealer)

wow-thanks for that reference 8vette7! OK, feel like i know enough now to help this go right and make a decision on new sensors. Also good to know CQRT that discount knew what they were doing on yours. He quoted me $130 for everything which i thought was pretty good. My local tire chain store wanted 200, and i wasnt convinced they knew how to jack it up safely. Thanks again-this forum is great thanks to all of you who take the time to share and help out
