I am headed to Carlisle and thInking on getting a set. I know nothing on them but was wondering on sound and performance and worth it. I was gong to search on hear but appreciate any info or help.
As a DIY guy my entire life, I would say an absolute yes. Headers are always top of my list for mods. Better power, better responsiveness, better sound.
But... if you gotta pay for an install, not so sure. What's the Bill? Any other mods planned?
There is a negative side to headers that many dont mention and it is only fair to let someone know who is not aware of, especially if they dont plan on tracking the car or going with heavy mods.
Headers are wonderful but many brands have fitment issues, they rub on or are way to close to wires/lines and other parts of the car that will cause excessive heat and will eventually cause premature failure ESPECIALLY if the headers are not properly coated to reduce heat.
If you install headers on a C5, you are forced to buy from a top brand $$ to ensure good fitment plus you will need to powder coat the outside and preferable the inside of the headers $$.
While doing this job, you or the person doing it will have to pay close attention to wiring so that all wires and lines are as far away from the headers as possible.
I love headers, had them on all of my cars I raced, but my Vette that I like to drive/cruise , not race does not have them.

I don't think any of those points are negatives. You usually get what you pay for and headers are no different than anything else. You cheap out, you usually get poor quality. Same as it ever was.........

While headers may cause some extra heat, and I agree coating (ceramic, not powder coat IMO) is ideal, I have installed headers on every V8 car I've owned (starting in the late 70's / early 80's) except 1 of 2 V8 Monza's, never coated a set (including my Corvette), and never had heat related issues. I did not buy a top tier brand (TSP), and although I did have fitment issues, they have been problem free since (4 years-ish).
Definitely pay attention to wiring during and after, ensure all are well away from headers and securely.
Thanks so much and I plan on buying at the place that does each year and presume they are good quality as would hear from others that not worth it or not great. I believe they are in that $1,700-$1,800 cost installed there. I have added a exhaust but nothing else and not looking to do much more as just wanted to add if it sounded great and add a few HP. I don't go on the track or race and as said earlier a little clueless on what I should expect. Thanks again and appreciate the help.
Not to be a nay sayer, but if you aren't familiar with headers, or the effects to performance or sound, they may not be worth the investment. Do a little research first -- a set that doesn't increase mid-range torque won't do much unless your near the top end. How often are you near red line?
At that price installed you can't go wrong! What catback do you currently have installed?
I know Kooks and ARH are on the installation alley list. You really can't go wrong with either since they are both top tier in header build quality. I'm pumped for Carlisle!!!

I dont push the car crazy hard as more of a weekend driver and will pick my spots but not pushing super hard. Ha ha as will get picked on 😀
