Default Seat belt retraction spring not working

Hello everyone, I have a 00 coupe and during the last couple of months I have noticed that the retraction on the seat belt has become almost non-existent. If i lean forward in my seat and extend the belt it will not retract back without me having to feed it back. It is becoming a safety concern. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix/replace the spring?

I looked through the forum but didn't see anything similar posted.

They're not meant to be taken apart
although you can do it.
Just be careful the springs don't pop out.
Maybe a spring broke or slipped.
There's 2 springs.
I would just buy a used retracting belt from Vettenuts or ebay

Would it be wise to spray some sort of dirt-repelling lubricant in there, such as Teflon lubricant?

You may try pulling the belt all the way out. As 8VETTE7 mentioned, it could have something in it or maybe the belt got folded at some point and is causing drag.

If you can't clear the issue up, I'd seriously consider replacement. Have you tested the inertia locks to see if they still work?

Yes, the lock works fine just not retracting a full strength. Anyone have knowledge of how to get the plastic cover off to get into the the re-tractor to see if something got stuck in the belt?

I just looked into it more and it seems like the retractor is fine but its actually the piece that attaches to the pillar and rotates that is causing the problem. It seems that it has swelled or something because it is causing a lot of friction on the belt as it passes over it. Not sure what I can really do to make it slide smoother.
