Default BBK 1726 cold air intake C5

I know there has been some discussion before but not for a few years. At $305 and CA legal it looks like the way to go for a modest 10-? hp increase. My exhaust is Corsa Performance installed by previous owner. Am looking for feedback from those with bbk installed. My car is an 04. A buddy installed one on his C6 and likes it. I note that one has dual filters compared to the single for the C5. Am wondering if that makes any difference.

I have all their products on my car. Air intake, 80mm tb, intake, and headers. Have no issues.

I wouldn't bother with that. Its old school and it will just act as a heat sink (its made out of metal..). Why not just go with a blackwing and swap back to the factory airbox for inspections?

Or toss on a Z06 lid. They sell for $30-$40. Other than that you would be better off also with the flip tie mod for .10 cents.

Pretty much agree; plastic is a great material for air intakes. Wonder if the difference between an otherwise identical plastic and aluminum intake would be measurable though.
Also heard the dual filter design causes air flow issues... again, measurable?

If the callaway Honker is CARB approved. Go for that one. I bit more pricey..but very proven!

Ah the old heat sink theory. Yep tested that myself. Measured the IAT with the k/n fipk (plastic bridge) i had versus the bbk i put on. They were identical.

Interesting..

I have measured IAT temps between a stock factory plastic intake and an aluminum intake ( BBK intake) and the IAT temperature did increase. I did my test with the hood closed not open.

What did you measure your temps with? I used an OBD scanner that read IAT temps.

I used hptuners scanner driving. Sitting at light they both rose with the bbk slightly higher. Driving down the road, which matters most, they were identical.

Sitting, waiting to hit the gas... guessing that would affect performance off the line then, no? How much, who knows.

it would have to be a minimum of 113*F at minimum half throttle before even 1* of timing would need to be pulled.

Thx for this tip on the lid. Since it is mostly about more air this makes the most sense to me in CA rather than switching filters, looking for CARB approval at the cost of HP, plastic vs metal, etc. Regardless, we are talking about a very modest gain.

And by the way where do you find one of these?
