According to CarFax, the following is a potential odometer rollback for my 1997 Corvette, but pay attention to the time frame:
02/19/2005 25,136 mi Vehicle sold at Dealership
03/23/2005 59,713 mi Vehicle Serviced at Same Dealership that sold at
04/29/2005 60,315 mi Vehicle Serviced at Same Dealership
06/27/2005 27,192 mi Vehicle Serviced at Same Dealership-Drive Belts
The milage before the listed above and after what is listed is historically consistent with the milage that is on the vehicle now (55,503 mi). First I thought is the difference might have been mistaken the miles for kilometer miles, but the conversion does not add up. My question is there some type of history reading that might be saved to the IPC or the PCM that I can reteive? Any known problem with the C5 cluster? Any advice or direction I can take to try to verify the mileage on the odometer?
I would think that the mileage error could be due to a mistake in reporting the mileage to Carfax or somebody at Carfax made a mistake in entering the data. With the mileage error being shown as something from 12 years ago, it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to find the cause of the error.
Even looking at the mileage differences between the February date and the March date seems to be very strange. Almost 35K miles in just over 30 days??
One thing that is stored in the PCM for verification is the VIN. Drop by a local dealership and ask them to look at the VIN and give that to you. You can match it up against the VIN on the dash and the RPO sticker. Could be that the PCM may have been taken from another car.
Almost 35K miles in just over 30 days immediately got my attention. It seems those 2 consecutive entries from the "same" service place were done without verifying the mileage. They probably just entered what seemed average at the time, or it could have been an error.
Just to clarify, the mileage is stored in the IPC.
I agree with the others; the mistake, it seems, was made between the February and March reports. The final mileage is probably correct, 2056 miles between February and June.
I had similar with one of my MOT's over here in UK.. for me the guy doing test turned key and my speedo reading was in KM instead of miles.. he just copied it ..
I assume you know about the KM / Miles button on DIC ?

Yep, the first thing I checked. If I convert the mileage in question from km to mi, I get a mileage what is not consistent.

Can't see anyone putting nearly 35K miles on a Vette in two months. That would be some extensive driving. My guess would be an error in what was reported - but may be hard to prove anything now unless the dealer can go back that far in their records and admit a mistake was made.
And remember, Carfax is only as good as the info supplied to it or as good as the data entry that was made.

Is the interior wear consistent with the lower mileage or the higher mileage? Maintenance items? As stated, Carfax is only as good and accurate as the information supplied.
I had a Lexus awhile back that was mis-reported by Carfax. Showed repairs performed and mileage changes while I owned it at a dealership halfway across the country!
Salvage yards get BIG dollars for a Low Mileage Instrument Cluster for a car. I went to a local salvage yard last year for a spare tire/rim for my wife's jeep and I saw a cluster for a Chevy Camaro in a glass case with 9k miles. It had a price tag of $4,100 for it. WOW!!!!
Go on E-bay. You can buy analog odometers with every possible mileage for many pre-Carfax cars for short dollars.

That would be hard to tell I think in this situation. If somone did put 34,000 plus miles on it in 34 days, you are only looking at one month of "age" for them driving those miles, so there might be some difference on the cosmetics, but I don't think it would greatly vary within that month especially if it happened over 12 years ago. But then again, my experience of what a car looks like when it is driven over 34,000 miles in one month is lacking. I am looking into some type of maintenace history that covers this period, but I might be out of luck.

If you're looking at this car to buy, run away.
If you already own this car, then you just got screwed.
