Why Do My C6 Lug Nuts Have an Outside Thread?

I've asked three different Corvette guys, no one knows. I've searched the forum. It's a 2007 Z06, by the way.

Not sure on the C6, but my C5 has lug nut caps that thread onto the outside threads.

I think the C4 I used to have was the same way. Threads to hold the lug nut covers in place
