Just bought a 2001 vert with 31K on the odo in Dec 2016 - I had the oil changed when I first got - just turned 34K mikes and I get the low oil level warning - there is absolutely no leaks - nothing at all on the garage floor. I recall seeing posts about excessive oil use but I can't find the posts. What would cause this and what is the fix? I've only seen smoke one time under a hard acceleration - nothing any other times - this has me concerned. Any help, suggestions, etc. more than welcomed.
Check the oil level with the dipstick. Using a quart in 3k miles isn't excessive for these cars, and wouldn't have been enough for GM to have fixed it under warranty back in the day.
The sump in these cars is very shallow. If you're parked even a little on any sort of incline it can give a low oil level warning on occasion. Think parked in a driveway or similar.
A 2001 model will have the LS6 intake with the "better" LS6 style PCV so you shouldn't be losing that much oil - if any - at 3K but indeed you'll want to look at the dipstick. Again due to the relatively shallow sump you need to be parked on a near absolute level surface before checking.
