Homemade FRC Partition
Well, I spent a couple of hours this morning and cut the pieces out and put some fiber batting around the wood. Attached some black vinyl that looks like leather on the front and some carpeting (from PEP boys) for the back. And let me tell you it looks like it has always been there. Total cost about $30.
I got the instructions from fixedroofcoupe.com. If you are interested in making this check out their website at http://www.fixedroofcoupe.com/
I made my partiion using the fixedroofcoupe.com template. However, I used 1-inch thick foam construction board from Home Depot, about $6. Very light, very strong, very easy to work, great sound deadening. Carpet was from Pep Boys, for about $10. Spray adhesive, also from Depot, bonded the two.
Looks totally factory, works great, stays in place with no Velcro or anything, just a press fit into the wheelwell area, and pops out in a millisecond should you need the whole trunk.
The completed divider makes a HUGE difference going down the highway. You can actually enjoy the radio!!
Wolf--good point. I know of no reason to make it in 2 pieces. In fact, that would seem to add a bit of "flimsy" at the joint and make the fabrication MORE difficult. Mine is one piece, very sturdy, very perfect. The hardest part is getting that 4x8 foot sheet of foamboard home!! Of course, if you are 'truck challenged", you could make rough cuts to the 4x8 in Depot's parking lot and take the resulting pieces (like 5 feet x 14 inches) home in your Vette!!!
