Default '99 convertible rear hatch

Dumb question of the week (month, year): when you push the hatch release button is the hatch supposed to go up on its own? Mine releases but stays down and must be lifted manually. No big deal--just trying to find out what is correct. Thanks , let the beatings begin!

Mine goes up just enough to get my fingers under it to lift it up. I do believe that is the way it is supposed to work.

I don't believe it was ever designed to open all the way up on it's own like some some other cars. The struts just hold it in the open position. Just like the hood.

At least the ones I have seen just open that far.

Don't go replacing the struts. They are not meant to lift the trunk but to hold it open. If you look at them in the closed position, they are parallel with the lid. Not going to lift anything.

I just replaced mine a few months ago, I get a three inch pop up overtime I hit the release. It would probably be higher but I have my rear wind defector installed

There's a spring by the latch. Get a new spring, fixed it for me.

There is nothing wrong with his trunk. He wanted to know if it is supposed to open all the way when you hit the button like some other cars.. It doesn't open all the way. You have to lift it manually.

Okay, I went back in the garage, removed my wind deflector and took a vid of it.

By hatch, do you mean trunk or tonneau cover?

I don't know which one the OP is referring to.
The Tonneau cover should pop up all the way, the trunk does not.
