I am reading the book now and it is facinating, I for the life of me do not know how they get anything done! GM was and probably still is as screwed up as the government. I am just amazed that they turned the C5 out and that it is as great as it is! If you have not read the book, you need too, it will give you a whole new perspective on your car. It did me.
Just finished reading mine last week. It really makes you appreciate the car and the team that worked on it. They didn't give up and the result is an obviously excellent car that was way ahead of its time.
Good reading. I sent out my copy some months ago, it's still floating around here somewhere. Hopefully whoever has it will see this post and pass it along.
Funny, just bought this on Amazon a few weeks ago in like new cond for less than $10 shipped, looking forward to reading it when the weather starts getting bad. Looking more forward to reading it now with the good reviews.
I haven't read the book yet, but would like to...I too wonder how the Corvette survived after the post '72 C3s and C4s...basically the Corvette was viewed as a joke by most until the C5 came out...
I dealt with GM on numerous occasions selling them analytical instruments. I never met a more arrogant bunch of engineers who knew everything there was to know about everything. Every time I visited them on a sales call all the engineers where reading the morning paper. I knew back in 2000 that they would go into bankruptcy sooner or later so I quit calling on them. There were plenty of other customers in the Detroit area. By the way, the book is factual.

The politics at GM with their selfish antics almost cost the Corvette from being in existence. It's amazing how the C5 model actually came into place right under certain executives noses who do not even have a clue in the first place. As a owner of a '97 Lt. Carmine Red Metallic Corvette, I really highly appreciate the car that was the first model build from the ground up and had hardly no parts from other GM cars and it did pave the way for the future of the Corvette. Remember Chevrolet wants to find those new roads and not joking at all!!!!

Most large corporations suffer from the exact same issue.
If it were not for the dedication and desire of many subordinates, whose passion and desire to excel drives them, most corporations would fall flat on their faces.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
