Here is an article I thought just sumed it all up.
What Does Driving a Corvette Says About You? -- By Mitch Talley
What you drive says a lot about your personality, or so says Charles Kenny, a psychologist who tries to help major automakers understand why consumers choose certain cars.
In the old days, you had “Chevrolet men” and “Ford men.” Now psychologist Charles Kenny believes times have changed and that many consumers aren’t as loyal so much to brands as they are loyal to a certain type of vehicle, be it sports cars or SUVS or minivans.
So what’s the scoop on us Corvette drivers? Well, Kenny says we are seeking power and control, but mostly control.
“You will find that Corvette owners are more sensitive and refined than you would think. They’re not into hoarding it over other people the way that the Hummer owners are,” he said.
The other emotional need that can be fulfilled by a sports car like a Corvette is a desire for immortality.
“They get real upset if the paint job gets scratched. That’s very upsetting to a Corvette owner. They want these things to last forever, and they want to last forever,” Kenny said. “They’re never going to sell it. In fact, a lot of Corvette owners, when they buy a new Corvette, they keep the other one.”
Sometimes psychoanalysis can go a little too far. What if we Corvette fans just enjoy a beautiful car that can go fast and handle great?

Seeking power and control?
I am retired and all I want to do is play golf and take long drives in the Vette on weekends. I don't need the stress that control and power brings.

Finally I have Power! I'm retired, too, so now I can control when I play golf and when I take a drive (as long as my wife and shrink say it's ok).

It's a machine. I've had 8 of them. They look nice a drive well. I drive mine and park it where ever I want. Not rare or collectable, easy to replace (C5). Personally I have no emotional attachment. Loyalty? I don't think so. My DD is a RAM Hemi 1500 (have had 4 of them). Never had a Mopar engine on my stand but lost count of the Chevy rebuilds. Corvettes have been in my garage for 42 years, never wore a gold chain or ..... never mind

Psycho-Babble.
If I crave immortality, then explain why I throw myself between a Home Depot shopping cart traveling at 40 mph in the wind bearing down on my Corvette and the rear bumper, sacrificing myself to avoid a scratch and sending me to the ER instead!
Can't I just like and appreciate nice things? As soon as they come out with a woman that wears high heels even in the shower, I may get one of those too and keep it waxed and in the garage.

It says I'm slowing getting away from traveling on motorcycles all over the country and attempting to get use to this cage travel but in something more fun than my truck. My bikes were always different from what everyone else jumped on and now my car is also.

I'be bought them because they are simply the best bang for the buck. Sure I would prefer to get a 72 GTO like I used to own and do the whole thing up, spend 50 grand...but I can't. For 17K I get a cheap super car that does everything well and looks like nothing out there.

This is me. After over 40 years of riding, I wanted something safer (way too many distracted drivers on the roads these days), something that had heat when it got cold, something that kept me dry when it rained, and something that still fulfilled my occasional need for speed...I think the C5 will do this well...
