Ok so this should be easy but I have seen at least 3 different answers and now have no idea what to think. What is the exact bulb number required for the reverse lights? One place said 1156 (makes sense - single element), but others are saying 1157 (dual element - makes no sense) and then the Osram site that is usually helpful says 2057 now...
I'd like to replace with some bright LEDs, but can't determine which are the correct bulbs. Has anyone recently put in some LEDs to confirm what kind are needed?
I used the "Genssi 80W 1157 LED" from Amazon. They were $12.95 last July. I just looked and they went up to $27.95! They fit fine and are indeed much brighter..
Ugh, well I realize now why they're dual element. Because when you hit unlock they light up, but not at full brightness. Obviously for reverse, they get much brighter. What a useless function...there goes the 1500 lumen reverse lights, next brightest ones that actually work are only 420 lumens. I've swapped LEDs into all my cars, so I've tried a lot and won't really bother with other brands. VLEDs is my first choice, SuperBrightLeds is my second choice.
I wish that reverse lights coming on with the remote thing could be wired out...additional question, do the bulbs go straight in (as in the bulb is directly facing outward like in the tail lights)?

Thanks, how tight is the fit in the reverse light housing? I know I'll probably have to take it off myself to measure, I found one that seems pretty respectable from SBL here but it's rather long. Based on this pic, you think it would fit?
These are the VLED ones I would've liked to use, I swear I never see anyone else build such beefy looking LED bulbs. Each of those emitters is a 5W LED, compare to the one above where each emitter is .5W LED. Difference is the above is a 675 lumen bulb and below is 1500 lumens.
I've taken a look at the socket, it's a dual filament socket with only one wire connected. The most probable reason for the difference in brightness is 12v at engine off and 14v for engine on.
