So, my passenger mirror droops a little bit, and I was just kinda looking at them one day when I noticed that on the a pillar is a small little black triangle that almost looks like where chevy was going to put the mirror. Then they decided not to and put them on the doors. Has anybody relocated their mirrors from the doors to the A pillar? I realize that there would be difficulty with door/window clearance but if you could make it work, I think it might look cool with partially shaved doors and stationary mirror.
I was thinking of a mirror like this
Right where the black plastic triangle is on the a pillar.

Never really given it much thought. I personally like the mirrors just where they are and have a feeling the engineers and designers knew what they were doing by placing the mirrors where they did.
But if you decide to do the change, post up all the details.
I would imagine you will have to keep them small and forward, so the glass will not hit when the door is opened?
I have looked at these APR ones when I used to have my WRX, carbon fiber, race inspired. There will be different style mounting bases for model years, one might be close to trim to fit, or just bolt on steam to existing C5 pillar...good luck!
I like the simplicity of those apr ones. I personally hate the carbon fiber style though. Love the benefits of it, but hate how it looks. If I knew how to mock this up, I would. unfortunately, I don't. But I did take some measurements and I think it would look really cool. It wouldn't go straight out, to clear the window, it may have to have a slight incline. Which is for sure different. Anybody know where or who to contact to get stuff like this made? Just any body shop I guess?
I would really want to do a style like the 2010 camaro ss concept mirrors. I think they look awesome. Like I said, they would be at a slight incline though depending on mounting location. Stuff like this is where I wish I knew how to weld. I can cut metal, but besides using tape, epoxy, or screws to mock stuff up, I'm sol. Might try to mock it up out of carboard and a hot glue gun, see what happens I guess.
That pic is of the DB10 built specifically for James Bond Spectre. Which I'm very disappointed that they didn't use it for more and that they drowned it. Not cool.
BTW, if you've never seen Spectre, spoiler's above^ But ya, trust me, I would if I could!
I like your idea if done like it was always there.
To me, it looks like GM dabbled in the idea, but maybe couldn't make it work, or they decided not to further down the road? Maybe visibility wasn't that good, idk.
I'm going to go get some modeling board this weekend and see what I can't mock up with a knife and some hot glue. Haha!
You could always paint or wrap the mirrors so you can't see the carbon fiber.
I could, if I was really that worried about weight savings and I liked the factory location of the mirrors. I have no use for carbon fiber mirrors. Car is my daily driver.

Ok. I just thought you said in an earlier post that you liked the mirrors but not the carbon fiber finish. You can also look at motorcycle mirrors. I've seen some Corvettes with those. Cheap alternative and look very similar to the APR.

Sorry to confuse you, I hate the look of carbon fiber finish. Love the benefits of strength and lightweight though. Just don't really need the lightweight right now. Problem is if I start worrying about weight, etc, I'll end up buying a promod or something extreme.
I do like the look of motorcycle mirrors. Thin, low profile, etc. Like I said, I will try to mock something up to get a general idea of how it would look and the location, etc. If I like it, maybe I'll find someone who's good with bodywork around here. (Sacramento, CA area)
I'm missing something here. Are those mirrors on the Subaru motorcycle mirrors?
REgardless, the mounting bracket with exposed screws does not bode well on a C5 IMO.
American designers have been breaking their necks for years trying to hide screws and other mounting hardware.

No, those mirrors are aftermarket "racing" mirrors developed specificall6ly for that car. I'm sure its the same mirror with a different mount base for various vehicles.
I agree with having hardware hidden. It would be much better. Hence why I was wishing I knew how to fiberglass. One day...
Cameras...nice idea but if my experience with backup cameras is any indication, I'll stick with mirrors.
As for the mirror idea, which I like I wonder how much structure is in that area that might be compromised if any holes are made in it.

Ah, I didnt even think about that. Good point. Anybody know? How is that small black triangle even held in there? Glue? Clip in? Anybody know? Thanks!
