I broke down, need some information.
Driving back from L.A. to Phoenix the new idler pulley flew off and all that is left is the spacer/washer thing that went on the backside.
I heard a loud knock thud and knew belt must have come off, voltage Guage went down and dic sent overheat message, pulled over quickly.
I'm missing the pulley, the bolt, and can't remember if there is a spacer/washer that goes on the front.
Waiting on a tow truck to take us into Blythe.
I know the pulley and bolt and that washer has to be on the road, I walked a ways back looking, but it's 100 degrees out here.
So I came back to car.
Would anyone know if the bolt and washer thing would be the same on other gm vehicles like a pickup or a van, guessing auto zone won't have it.

Broke down off I10 about 40 miles west of Blythe California, heading east.
Any help on the bolt and spacer where to find would be awesome.
Not sure if bolt broke off or just fell out.
The idler pulley on main belt.

I looked at the one just above the water pump and also the one on the other side and neither one of them had a washer on the front....just the bolt.
Oh and think that autozone would have the entire assembly.
Enjoy Blythe....somehow.....

Called shields. Can I drive home without the outer shield, it's for dust I'm hoping?

Just got it back together bought new pulley again, and the autozone guy had me buy a pulley with a bolt and a sleeve thing that worked with the bolt.
This is just to get home, then I'll buy the correct spacer piece and bolt.
Also going to sign up for AAA towing, my auto insurance payed for 20 miles, it was 195.00 for my portion after the 20 miles ran out.

Conversion so the pulley doesn't fall off?
I probably didn't get it tight enough.
What's the billet?

Glad you got it (and yourselves) home. Most LS engines use pretty much the same pulley systems (serpentine), thus most parts places have replacements.

Yep, no choice, total with what I payed and my car insurance paid was 350.00.
They said I was 37 miles from Blythe, 7 dollars per mile, hook fees, this fee, that fee.
Just imagine being 100 miles away from any town!

I replaced my idler a few years ago with a new one from O'Reilley's and it did not fit correctly even though it showed to be the correct part. Ordered a GM OEM replacement, end of problem.

Glad you made it home so quickly. Good job on coming up with an interim solution out in Blythe. The lady in the car seems to be at least "kinda" smiling so that's especially good news.
And yes, with a C5 and a CTS V, both somewhat lowered, the AAA tow package is worth every penny. But, last month I had to fix a flat on the CTS V because the only tow company available at 0200 hrs couldn't handle the car without damaging it. Always carry a plug kit and pump in addition to the AAA tow package.
