Default Center console lid WTF

Console lid has to be opened then lifted to operate and open fully...
Is this status quo?
Any ideas to quick fix?

Some on the forum said oiling the hinges makes it easier to open. I personally have not done this.

If you lubricate the hinges you don't need to pull the cover towards you. It opens like a normal console lid.

May have to put a little oil on the console lid hinges in my car. I do not have any problems getting the lid open, but making it a smoother operation is not a bad idea.

According to Evil Twin, one of the GM design engineers on the C5 platform, the lid was designed that way to avoid it flying open in a collision.
That makes perfect sense. Shoulda put that much thought into cupholder design!
Thanks much
