Default Oil filter washer

Do we need a new washer replaced with our oil filters?
I don't see it mentioned /offered on sites selling the AC Delco OEM one.

Every oil filter I've seen has a built in washer... no? Am I misunderstanding?

You mean built into the filter body ?
For instance an S2000 filter comes with it separately.

Yes, like so:

I've never owned a Honda... GM and Ford are like above IIRC, BMW has a canister.

Cool. Thanks. So no need for washer. Saves 44 cents. 😂

Do you mean the oil drain plug bolt washer? If so, yes, change at every oil change. The gasket on the oil filter is already integrated, just needs a slight lubrication before screwing on. Also make sure the old gasket from the old filter is not stuck the to oil filter pump.

I checked an s2000 oem oil filter and it too is integrated into the oil filter, not separate.

Yes. I meant the oil drain washer. Not rubber gasket. Where do you get those? What part number?

You actually replace the drain plug washer every oil change? Never replaced one to my recollection, never had a drain plug leak. Interesting.

They're a few cents. Worth it.
Question is what size does ours require. I guess you could get them at any GM dealership. .

Not about money, as I'm sure it's literally almost nothing. It's about ignorance; in all the years I've worked on cars, I don't recall anybody using or recommending one.

I use an oil tite (dorman) 66451 rubber drain plug gasket on a magnetic drain plug I bought from mam or zip, can't remember. The drain plug gaskets are available at your flaps.

Now I'm totally confused...
I'm talking of the tiny silver drain plug washer ring looking thing... Not larger rubber gasket built into the filter body.
And what's flaps? 😊.

Probably not as confused as the rest of us. You should have just said "drain plug" from the start. The "drain plug gasket" is actually more like an O-ring and no, I wouldn't change it every oil change.

Flaps is friendly local auto parts store.

The pic that brackets posted is what my oil drain plug washer looks like. It sets into the depression on the bolt.

You might have an aftermarket drain plug if you have a metal type washer on your oil drain plug.

Up to you if you want to change it when you change the oil. I change mine every oil change.

Apparently they don't change the drain plug washer in British Columbia, since multiple people aren't doing it that live there.

Thanks. I'll just pop into Auto zone and ask for a drain washer o ring for C5.

I believe it's a "crush washer" for the oil pan drain bolt. They're (typically) designed to be replaced at each oil change, tho it's not really a necessity.
