Default removing stripes from car

Thinking about removing the vinyl stripes from my car. I have had them on the car for about 6 years now, just want to change it up a little.

Has anyone removed them before and is there any thing that I should be aware of be taking them off?

I would contact vettestripes.com and see what they say.

Good Luck!

There are a couple of things you can do.

- Die grinder with a rubber eraser wheel that will actually rub them off (Google 3M Stripe Off Wheel)
- heat gun

If it were me, I would gently use a heat gun. And be really careful, especially if those stripes are over areas that have been re-painted. You run the risk of pulling the repaint off with the stripes if it was not prepped well.

Another thing: if it is warm outside, you can always just try peel them off by hand. Most stripes will come off when they are warm if they are not too old. You may have to clean adhesive off after but that is simple to do.

I would not use a heat gun, may be to hot. Very Carefully, A hair dryers is what i would use starting on low heat. I also would start on the smallest spot to see how it works. Like one of the hash stripes.

It's the same as removing vinyl/stickers on any other car— don't use any sharp tools and minimize how much scraping you do. I've always used Goo Gone for removing badges and stickers, along with a heat gun. If there's any residue or marks left, a quick buff should clean it up nicely.

This is what I would try. After six years the stripes may be a bit difficult to remove, but you never know. Good luck - I actually like the look the stripes gives your car.

Not that my opinion matters - but I normally dont like stripes at all...but I have to say - that color combo looks REALLY nice on your car - I wouldn't remove them...

I wouldn't use a heat gun, but I would use a blow dryer and some goo gone. Soak the area really well then apply the heat. Gently lift one corner and work your way back using the dryer.

You will probably need to polish and wax the area underneath the sticker and pray that your other paint has not faded enough to show a difference.

I think you have been given some good advice on how to carefully remove stripes. Although I am with the crowd that says keep them they look very nice with your color combo and are not easy to replace or cheep to have done but I am a little bias.

"I wouldn't use a heat gun"

Why not?

I have removed stripes using a heat gun on dozens and dozens of cars and if careful, never a problem.

Never once saw a bodyshop removing stripes with a hair-dryer. lol

Heat guns have variable heat settings.

If the op is inexperienced with a heat gun it could be a problem.

I have used a hair dryer to debadge numerous cars and take off useless decals/stripes. Works great every time. And you don't have to go out and buy a heat gun, everyone's wife has a blow dryer.....

I think the stripes look great and would not remove them.
Why risk possible paint damage if you don't have to.
By the way - your whole car looks great.
