Hi all, I just had my ac compressor replaced and now after 1000 miles the ac unit squeals upon start up. It gets quieter once the car warms up but does not go completely away. If you turn off ac while it’s sqwealing the noise stops so I know it’s an ac issue. Would it be a loose or bad belt. Anyone have this issue ?
I had a squeal. It was still there after I removed main belt and started the car. It was the A/C belt. There was 79K miles on that belt and it was worn out.
could possibly be the A/C Idler pulley. Pull the AC Belt, confirm the squealing stops. Spin the AC Idler without the belt on. If it spins easily (like spins more than once or twice)-- it's done. it should not spin freely.
You can replace the tensioner assembly, or just the pulley.
I'd think that would squeal all the time though, AC on or off -- since the belt is always spinning...
