Melting Slicks
To properly replace just the head unit leaving the rest of the system in place you will need an adapter (not just a harness) to provide the required interface. This is due to the way the factory system was designed.
The 2 most common adapters are:
Replacing the head unit should be just plug-and-play by using either one. Both have setup adjustments to customize sound/levels. After tweaking them to your liking, they shouldn't require any further touching.
Built-in navigation is double DIN territory, but in case you want to consider a single DIN, then you would need an adapter plate to secure the new unit in place and provide a nice finish.
Here is an adapter plate that matches the interior very well. It has the word "Corvette" engraved in it that can be set up with backlighting (or you can customize the lettering).

CNC machined aluminum faceplate, finished in either a fine black texture finish or brushed aluminum.
The lettering can be above or below the head unit opening, there is also a non illuminated version with the head unit located in the center of the mount.
The main lettering illumination available in red, blue, green, yellow, white LED’s and also red mini lamp illumination.
Custom lettering and design is available.

Safety Car
+Metra bezel DP-3021B (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...3021B&_sacat=0) and the head unit of your choice. Probably Pioneer.
Polk Audio DB series is a good budget speaker otherwise the sky is the limit.
For a sub, a JL audio 10" in a stealth box. A Rockford Fosgate or JL class D mono amp.

If we are talking double DIN- Most of the newer units will support carplay or android auto. They can use your phone app for the navigation (displayed on head unit touchscreen) reducing the cost of the head unit- some of which may require map updates in the future, etc. My Kenwood even has it's own GPS antenna to help out the phone's GPS.
Preference depends on which phone family you have though. We have only company-issued iPhones so we are stuck with ONLY Apple's version of maps- no google maps & no Waze. Apple's map program is getting better but still not as good as the other two IMO. I'd be happier with an android for this reason alone but hey....free phones....
There is a ton of info here on the forum about this if you are up to tackling the job yourself. I found the C5 very easy to work on and I replaced every bit of the factory system. Also check out the audio section of the forum.
