I have a Torch Red 02 - and Im starting to see more than a few paint chips and I bought it with a minor scuff under the license plate (previous owner must have rubbed a curb). I need to get it done perfectly, cause I show my C5 constantly...
I just got a quote for $1,000 to remove and repaint it at my local shop.
Sounds close, but maybe a little high depending on where you live. I have quotes to get similar work done on mine for $850 and $930 from two local shops.

IMO, that's about double what it should cost. On one of the C5s I owned, I had the front fascia removed, a small tear repaired, painted and reinstalled by a local shop here and the cost was right at $500. Job was perfect.
That said, the price could vary depending on what the hourly labor rates are in your area.
I believe that is about right in today's prices. I got a quote a couple years ago for the front bumper for $800.00.
I elected to paint it myself and the paint and materials cost me almost $200.00. Stripping and repairing any imperfections will be where most of the cost will be. IMHO
My quote was $1400, but that included body work (slightly mushed by the logo), repainting hood and nose and possibly fenders to match? I'll have to look again, it hasn't gone in to the shop yet, but it will soon.
Even if you do it yourself, and, have the tools, the paint and sandpaper gonna run you around 300 bucks, if you have to start buying equipment, add another 4 to 5 hundred.
