Fire Extinguisher Mounting Location
I'm looking for suggestions on possible mounting locations for a fire extinguisher inside my 04 convertible. A club member has an 04 convertible and has his mounted on the seat rails, it works OK for him but not for me. My concern is damaging unseen parts when drilling holes for the mounting bracket. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That's where mine were mounted, in front of the seats.

This maybe a newbie question which I am. Why do we need a fire extinguisher on our beloved Vette?
If we really do need it, mounting it under the front of driver seat? wouldn't that hinder the seat forward movement?
Thanks

Thanks for you response however I mentioned how a club member of mine had his extinguisher mounted on the seat rails in the same general location as your's and that this location does not work for me but I appreciate your suggestions just the same. I was thinking about mounting it behind either the driver or passenger seat on that small raised area immediately behind the seats in a convertible. I'm not sure if there is anything under that location that could be damaged if I drilled into it. Thanks again.

Fixing to check out where I'm going to mount the one I pulled out of my boat when sold it. Got to be a fast grab location. I'll do a pic when I make up my mind. Vol Fireman for many year here so know the importance of it.

Why do we need it? Is the C5 more prone to fires then other cars? I can see having it if you tracked car.

I had originally mounted mine in front of the passenger seat, however my co-pilot wife didn't like it there as it does restrict movement. I then decided to create a custom mount on my trunk partition.
Now I know some argue that it's not readily available, however I will take my chances as the only time I've ever used an automotive fire extinguisher was on a friend's car, not mine. Plus, if it's that bad, I will step away and let it burn. I'm insured.

[QUOTE=rrwirsi;1595880993]Probably in the years I've been with the Fire Department, around 30% of the fires have been vehicle fires. Probably about 90% of those, if the driver had an extinguisher, knew how to use it and didn't panic. The vehicle would of just had recoverable damage instead of burnt to a total lost. Better to have and not need.

**** happens, better to be prepared. Carry an extinguisher or a bag of marshmallows your choice.
Also, maybe you could be a good Samaritan to another driver in need.

Thanks for the photo,BTW your trunk area looks fantastic. Unless someone comes up with a location in the cockpit area that not only isn't obtrusive but is aesthetically acceptable as well I'll most likely mount mine in the trunk area also. I'm leaning more toward the rear most area,on the deck just behind the license plate where the cover for the CD magazine is located. Keeping the conversation on fire extinguisher's after a fair amount of research I decided to buy a 2.5lb H3R Halguard extinguisher. Apparently the standard type of extinguishers can cause more harm then good, especially on the wiring and painted surfaces. I'm not sure I understood all the stuff I read about the different types of extinguishers but what I did understand caused me to believe paying the extra bucks for the Halguard filled extinguishers was the way to go. Thanks again.

Thanks for the offer, however my son in-law owns a pretty well equipped machine shop and when I showed him some photos of some fairly pricy aluminum mounts he said he could design and manufacture any kind of mount I wanted just for the practice. BTW, I'm not sure how your screen name heavymetals applies to Corvette's but I love it just the same. Cool, very cool

In this litigious society, if you do decide to be a good Samaritan, be sure to hand the extinguisher to the other driver. If you don't do that and things go wrong, the other driver could say he never gave you permission to put out the fire. Even then if he does use the extinguisher, he could say you ruined his engine by not using the correct fire extinguisher type. Of course, you could ask him to sign a hold harmless cause that you always carry in your back pocket. I would just bring a bag of marshmallows if it were me.

Bought a disposable extinguisher and taped some velcro to it and stuck it to the carpet on the shelf immediately behind the passenger seat in my vert. I can get to it from inside the car. It won't put out much of a fire, but if I needed more than that then the insurance company can have the car.
