Went to Boston to pick up wife at airport, yesterday. I mostly drive 2 lane roads, with windows down and not notice road noise. The road noise on the turnpike was bad. Could or would having carpet pulled up and under coating sprayed help, or bad idea?
What kind of tires are you running? Run flat Goodyears at speed ( highway speeds) can be very noisy. If you are driving with the windows down at 65+ MPH there is going to be a lot of noise. Wind, road, other vehicles etc.

I also drove into Boston and over to Rockport,Ma yesterday and my wife said same thing. My car is all stock.
A reputable forum vender sells either a front or rear compartment insulation kit and also a whole car kit. When I bought my C5 coupe 2 years ago, I installed the whole car kit and it was like night and day compared to before I installed it. It really reduces the road noise transferred from the tires to the chassis and into the cabin.
Obviously you have to gut your car to includes removing the seats, center console and radio bezel, footwell panels, rear speaker covers and of course all carpeting. Each piece is precut and labeled for its location in the car. All you need is a roll of quality foil tape which they also sell. It took me about 8 straight hours from start to finish and I found some nice little goodies left by the previous owner under the seats.
That’s my suggestion instead of spraying which I think could be messy and possibly smelly.

with both of the above posts. Your tires could be the major source of the road noise you are experiencing. Runflats tend to be louder than non-runflats, especially if they are older tires.
There are a few options if you want to add an insulation kit to your car. I would not add what I typically call undercoating to the car, especially in the interior. The sound deadening kits work well, are pre-cut or fairly easy to cut into a form fitting shape, and do not make a mess of the interior.
Another thought is the temperature outside. Summer tires get harder as the weather cools and will be louder. They can have significantly less traction too.
I would not spray any coating in or under the car.
You need to tell us what you have on the car. I've driven the pike and parts of the road surface were noisy for stretches and other sections not. I run summer only tires on my car and they are quiet.

I will list my tires when I get out to car. Thanks for comments!Insulation might be way to go this winter.Do you remember cost?
I used the kit in just the trunk and it helped out quite a bit. Also lowered the temps a fair bit back there as well, which I'm sure my pup appreciates when he's back there.
My Z06 was horribly loud so I gutted the entire interior like was mentioned above and did an extremely thorough sound deadening using 9 rolls Soundskinz material covering every possible exposed surface. The difference is incredible. The ride is now quiet like a nicely equipped sedan. It was the best mod I could have ever done to the car.

Just got in car to go explore area.I have Goodyear F1 tires.
I drive mostly 2 lane roads with the top down. When I do drive on the freeway I notice the road noise is quite a bit more. Probably because I am going faster, the road surface is usually worse and there is the noise from other traffic.
be sure to get actual sound deadener . the thin bubble wrap stuff is insulation , may help with heat but not sound . I put the pre- cut stuff I mine and it did not help sound level . went back and used a true sound deadener and made a world of difference .
I did the sound deadening too. I covered ~30-50% with butyl mat (for sound deadening) and almost 100% with cell foam mat. It was much quieter but still had road noise until I went with non run-flats.
Any chance you have the start of a wheel bearing problem. That's what my road noise was.
Will check it out this winter when car on lift going through it.This was last trip of year for it.Depending on weather may get out for day trip but snow season should be here soon I guess I need to get 4 new tires and insulation this winter.Fronts are new with about 3000 miles. I got this car for purpose to drive with wife for quality time and take long day trips and find myself driving it more than that.
