I believe it is only a certain group of vin numbers that have that problem in 04 models.

Do a search, and it will tell you which group of numbers are involved.

Bob.

Okay, did look it up 45110258-45125500

Mine is in that range 451135XX

So, still the question......how many have not had the problem. Most? Many? I wonder if there is a percentage somewhere.......besides Chevrolet.

I have had my '04 for seven years now and no problem so far. And yes mine does fall into the vin #s. Now I probably jinxed myself!

My 04 Vert DOES NOT fall into the VIN numbers that show possible problems and thankfully I have no problems. However, given the absolutely lousy inspections done by GM on their parts vendors for the Vette, I am not feeling all fuzzy.

My Z is a late ‘04 build and outside the suspect VIN range. No issues to speak of whatsoever.

Two years and no problems yet. Mine falls in the VIN range. Not really worrying about it, if it happens I'll fix it. The original owner even gave me the letter that GM sent out when they did the recall. Guess I can frame that with the parts bill if I ever have to repair it. (or stuff it in the filler neck and light it on fire if I don't feel like fixing it )

If your VIN # falls inbetween the range of 45110258 thru 45125500 then the potential for a problem exists.
If not you're good to go

No leak in my '04 (and I'm in the bad vin range), but the tanks have never been out. I have to remove them soon to replace the fuel level sensors so it might yet leak.

I had an 04 for 3 1/2 years, never had a gas leak. But I have bad news for ALL C5 and C6 owners. The crossover leak can happen to any year of either series. The group of 04s tended to leak early and were more prone to leaking than other years. There have been a number of C6s that developed the same problem. If you have any doubts, just go to the C6 forum and check out the Sticky section and you'll see an entire sticky thread dedicated to the gas tank leak.
At one point I came very close to buying an 09 C6 coupe. However, during the demo drive the dealer put in around a 1/4 tank of gas. For several miles the gasoline smell was overwhelming. I suspected the tank was leaking.
I don't know about the C7. Those are newer cars and it may take some time for a leaking tank to develop. We'll see.

EDIT: The group of 04s that were more prone to having a leaking tank are now 14 model years old. IMHO if they haven't leaked up until now, I'd say the risk of a leak is about the same as it is for any other C5.

My 04 CE leaked at about 60,000mi. Was fixed under GM special warranty extension for that problem.
