c5 intermittent power steering

My brother in law in Hawaii has a 2000 C5

While driving the power steering will stop working and then come back on, making the car dangerous to drive

He has been to dealer and and they had no idea what was wrong

Any help is much appreciated.

With such little background information provided, I'll just take a "flyer" and say that the serpentine belt, and/or the belt tensioner are going bad, causing slippage.

Before doing anything, pull the codes. Could be the steering wheel position sensor, could be faulty ABS. Could be mis-diagnosed as "intermittent power steering quits". Could be a lot of things. You've got to start with the codes.
