I am getting an occasional high pitched whistling noise from the engine compartment. It sounds like air passing over an orifice, but I can not locate the source. Antone else experience a similar noise?

it makes it a lot easier to have this information in hand when i go back to the dealer.

Since my car is out of warranty. Will the dealer still do this for free?

Mine has done this since new. It is most likely caused by the intake manifold issue described in the TSB. Since I know what the cause is, it doesn't bother me so much. I'm wondering if I should just get it taken care of though...

Even if it's out of warranty I sure in hell would make em fix it for free. :yesnod:
My Stepson was working at the GM Proving Grounds when they were testing the new C5 before production. He told me about all the problems they had with the Corvette during its testing. The 97 still had a few of these issues that had not been fixed and GM went into production knowing there still were a few bugs left to deal with.
If there is a defect in any part, I would for sure make them fix the problem at no cost to me, in or out of warranty.
Mine does this occasionally. It doesn't bother me. But is there any other issues that go along with this? i.e. performance or reliability issues? If there aren't, then I'm not going to worry about it. I don't want the dealers mucking around with it. They will probably break 4 other things while fixing that one.
Mine does this too, but it operated so infrequently within the conditions that create the whistle, that I just don't worry about it. If there was a benefit to changing the manifold (ex, the '03 manifold was better), then I might make the dealer do it, but it's not worth the hassle right now.
