I've used FedEx and UPS before. Both got the tires there just fine.
Same here, but one suggestion is, even if you tape or wire two tires together, put an address label on the inside of each tire in case they get separated.

Make sure whoever you use to ship it, to get their specified packing method before hand. If it isn't followed to a Tee, they'll deny the claim and tell you to eat ****. I think both UPS and Fedex require 1/4" closed cell foam to be wrapped around it.
Oh and even if you pay for the pack and ship guarantee they won't automatically pay, I had to sue, goodluck.
With that said I have shipped the exact way the others have mentioned without too many problems, but after my recent wheel/tire shipping "**** ups", I take extra precautions now.

They might require foam for wheels, but definitely not for tires. Every tire delivery I've ever received was just strapped/taped.

UPS definitely changes their requirements all the time, best to check to make sure the current requirements. I ship hundreds of packages a month and that's how they weezle out of having to cover them for damages.
