Default Fog light housing

I have seen some of these offered that state you can gain 5 hp when over 50 mph given they route more cool air to the intake. Question is, I like how the screens look on the fog lights. Wouldn't the screens impede airflow somewhat? Also, would the screens be able to be installed with the aftermarket fog light housing? Thanks!

The vendors that sell these type products put WAY too much language into them to make it seem like you're getting something amazing.

Remember that your car is largely a bottom feeder. Air comes up through the underside of the car, is fed into either the side tubes of air box if you have an 97-00 or front opening of air box if you have an 01-04 any model, and goes through the intake. Plenty of air already comes in through that area. All you will do by adding the fog light housings with the openings is just provide more path for air (which is just likely to hit against the pitched air box housing). And no, a screen of any sort would not impede that air flow.

Also you can create exactly the same thing with what you have now. Remove the fog lamp housings, grab a Dremel and cut some neat rectangles or measure and drill some symmetrical holes.

This sort of product would also see more effectiveness if you had something up front that needed to be cooled. Think an air cooler for a turbocharger or something like that. Typically though if you've gone that far you've probably removed the housings entirely for room.

Easy enough to open up those fog light surrounds as a DIY project.

Only a Vararam intake will net you any sort of speed air intake benefit. Just opening up the housings will increase underhood pressure, which results in increased drag and front end lift, both of which will most likely negate any sort of gain, if not result in a performance loss.

I was just going to say, only if you have a vararam hooked up to them.
