Just replaced both my Key Fobs on my 2004. I could kick myself for not doing this a long time ago. I was always afraid the remotes would be expensive because I had 1 and 2 remotes for the memory feature and it is a Vette. I was wrong I got two remotes off of Ebay for $11.95 shipped. I took less than 5 minutes to program them to the car. So if you have a remote that has bad distance or is requiring you to hold down the button harder or longer even after you replaced the battery quit fighting it and spend $11.95 well worth it!
My car came with both remotes (#s 1 & 2), after putting fresh batteries in them, neither one worked. I took them apart and noticed that both had quite a bit of discoloration on the button contacts on the green "mother board"- and I took a stiff nylon brush and brushed both the open button and close button contacts clean (1st image shows one of the two contacts).
After that both remotes showed signs of wanting to work, but were still not quite right (would lock always, and unlock only sometimes). I then took them apart again and cleaned the rubber button contacts (small black plastic thatched areas using a soft cloth and lighter fluid and the cloth lifted off quite a bit of black grime/residue (2nd image shows one of the two button surfaces).
One of the remotes worked perfectly after cleaning the contact points, but the other one still was not working reliably. I took it apart and noticed that on that remote the solder points (2x) were cracked where they met the battery retaining clip. Using a soldering iron, I reheated the solder and after doing this, that remote has worked perfectly ever since and I use it as my primary, it is #1. (Location of cracked solder noted in the 3rd and 4th images).
I only had 1 key and key fob when I bought my Z06. Added two more fobs and three more keys. The fobs were about $15 each on ebay, same with keys and I had them cut for free:

JDMVETTE, how hard is this to install? I've installed plenty of car stereos but never anything like this.
If you've done anything at all with wiring it will be a snap. You just need to know which wires to tap into.
I put the module under the drivers kick panel. Ran wires to the door CM to pop/lock the doors and to disable the factory alarm, ran wires to the BCM to pop the trunk and activate the horn and exterior lights. Ran wires to the ignition for switched power and wired for the interior lights.
It wasn't hard to do at all. I have the wire codes from a fellow forum member and have some wire diagrams for the c5 to tell you which wires to tie into.
