I have a 2002 convertible, automatic, 3.15 gears and lots of options. Its stock except for the upgraded ceramic brakes I added. Its pretty much my daily driver and I personally cant see spending all that money for street use. Its quick to me and I love it.

I’m stock and I don’t think my car is fast in today’s world. I love the mix of looks, power to weight, and handling for a street car. I would truly love to improve the responsiveness to throttle input which I’m sure is available but would require some tuneup and a tune. I’ve had this car 7 years now and I still enjoy the drive, especially the handling in curves. The FRC is a love it or hate if body style for most people but my car always seems to draw positive comments from the general public which makes for longer than usual gas stops sometimes.

Thanks!
I couldn't find one I liked so I made one...
Ace hardware for a piece of polished stainless plate(didn't cost much)...cut half circles(more like 1/4 circle) on ends with a dremel tool(20 minutes), sanded sharp cut edges(10 minutes)so it would clear pipes, stick on plastic emblem from Chevy dealer, Scotch heavy duty mounting tape and bingo...

Shhhhh...don't tell anyone

my 2002 vert w/ TI exhaust and COW tune is fast enough for me. Hell my 2011 F150 3.7 L twin turbo'd V6 Ecoboost puts out about the same horsepower

A stock c5 is nice car. GM did well at providing a car to fulfill the target customer. If you just cruise in it, it handles ok, the seats are fine for most, has enough power, and looks good.

However, alot of us that are active in the forum take our cars to competitive events. So we mod. Thats were you'll quickly find what GM left on the table. The seats are horrid for stabilizing lateral movement, the car has lots of understeer and body roll, the ls6 has a nice usable power band (ls1 needs a little help) and for the price its about the best performance per dollar car out there.

I'm not knocking this thread, you guys have a point. The car captures what most who have it want. No doubt a stock c5 will bring a smile to your face. If it fulfills that need why spend money on it? Don't enjoy it to the fullest. Some of us like taking it to the track with friends and pushing it to its limits. After all your not going to get better if you don't push yourself.....

My 02 is near stock, CAI, X-pipe, and B&B Bullets. My 99 has about 620 hp. The 99 is much more fun to drive than the 02 but not as much fun as my 98's 905 hp had. Stock is slow IMO. My 4 cylinder Eagle Talon will toast my 02 Corvette.

I agree about keeping it stock, but.........it's kinda tied into age of the driver too. If you got the "want to" and the $$, go for it! But like AWCHES said at 74 he don't have the bug. I'm fortunate enough to have had some safe 100+ and at 82 that's fast. But I thank if you have a C5 (or any other Vette) in good shape then you got a winner.

In the end, it's all "relative".

Define fast
Define rich
Define smart
Define a big house

It is all relative.

In 1998 not too many cars could run with the C5. Stock or other wise

Dude, why did I know you would be all about the hood? You need to just give one of those hoods to me so it can be the right color!!!

I have a stock 6 speed. I know 345hp isn't worth bragging about in 2018.

But it's only slow compared to my sportbike, or a CTS-V I once raced. It stayed right with an SRT-392 Charger. I've beaten a supercharged BRZ, and 996 911.

Yeah I'm sure I would get dusted if I showed up to some organized drag racing event. Some of the latest muscle cars have 600-700hp factory hp. But for basically a 20 year old design, the C5 still holds its own pretty well against the vast majority of other vehicles on the street. It's not fast enough to be scary, but I never think, damn my car is slow.

My first car was a Corvette. I bought an old C3 when the C5 was new. Now that car felt slow. I got tons of compliments on the looks, but half the vehicles on the road could take me in a race.

The C5's performance has aged much better than the C3.

I thought about adding performance mods, S/C or H/C/I but decided I'd rather just put the money into eventually upgrading to a newer car.

It's all relative. I've see people on the C7 forum say matter of factly, the base 460hp Stingray is slow.

when I was a 'kid' any car that was 6 seconds or less 0-60 WAS fast. Any car that could run a 14 second 1/4 mile WAS fast.

I own a Lincoln that is less than 6 seconds 0-60 and less than 14 seconds in a 1/4 mile. AND it weights 4300#

Times change, I think my C6 is supposed to run under 13 second in a 1/4 mile.
my '65 GTO was a 14.2 sec 1/4 mile car

Fast is relative

My Z dynod a measly 375ish whp and it's slow as *****. I rode in my buddies stock 392 Hemi Scat Pack Challenger and I'm pretty sure it would be a decent run for my Z. I seriously don't see how anyone with an automatic Corvette with 2.73 gears can ever possibly think their Corvette is "fast". Unless of course they are comparing it to a Prius.

They are slow, I have a faster time slip from my truck than I do my FRC.

If you're talking about using power on the street, well that's not the place for raw power anyway. You'll only be able to ring out any cars potential on a track. I certainly wouldn't challenge my C5 to a road course run in my truck.

Like already said "fast" is relative.

So a twin turbo Z06 with 1200 HP is slow compared to a space shuttle. That doesnt means its slow. This ridiculous nonsense is like saying since hillary clinton isnt as evil and corrupt as Hitler, she isnt evil or corrupt at all. Or since my bike will smoke a Z06 with ease, the Z06 is slow. America has certainly lost its cognitive thinking skills.

I thought my '04 Z was pretty quick. (Vararam, LG Super Pros, modified Ti) Always had a great time with it, and it wasn't too difficult to put the power down. That being said, my '09 would've made it feel SLOW in comparison. On the flip side, it has way too much power for most situations. Still fun to know it's there, though.

With the exception of a Corsa Sport cat back system, along with the Corsa X Pipe, my 04 is bone stock. I'll tell you like I tell everyone else that asks...... " It's fast enough to get you killed or put you in jail "
