Hey Guys/Gals,

I have an 04 Z06 that I run in AS in autocross.

Currently, I have the following "mods" :

• SLP loudmouth
• Koni yellow shocks
• Strano Front Sway Bar
• Rival S tires

I need a "quieter" exhaust, mine blows the 100db sound level at most tracks pretty easily...... I have been looking at the Borla Stinger/S-type as well as the Corsa Extreme.

I am unsure that either one of these will be "quiet" enough though.

I want to let the car scream , but also want to be compliant with track rules so I don't have to worry about it.

Any input here would be awesome!

 

Shoutout for Aiken. I lived there for a few years and my parents live there still. Good bit of Corvette guys around there.

And to answer your original question, extremes may still be too loud. I've never heard them in person, but I have Corsa Sports on my car and it's not loud at idle but at WOT it sounds great.

That is where I am stuck at currently, I would pull the trigger on an exhaust if I knew that it would pass sound (100db at 50ft)

 

I had Stock Ti exhaust until the end of one muffler cracked and made a hole a little while ago. I did testing with a sound meter before and after exhaust swaps. Measurements were taken at the right rear corner of the car, 4' out at a 45 degree angle, revving the car in neutral to about 5-6k rpm. Stock Ti 117.5, Corsa Extreme 121.8, Corsa sport 118.

I originally bought the extreme thinking I would get max performance without drone. That's pretty much what you get, but you get a lot more. A lot more sound. The db reading doesn't tell the whole story. They were loud, way loud. Too loud for an old guy like me. So I called Borla (who make the Corsa systems) And got the straight poop. Loudest in order. Extreme, S type, Indy pace (sport), Touring. I ordered the sport system and took off the extreme system. The sport system is similar to stock Ti, only slightly louder, and no drone. Perfect for me.

I now have a set of Corsa Extreme exhausts with the 4" tips (model 14961) that have 1 week and less than 100 miles on them for sale. They did get dirty because it was raining when I came back from the dyno about 10 miles from my house. Prefer not to ship since although I have the original box, I tossed out about half the original formed packing foam. So anyone in N. CA that wants a almost brand new Corsa Extreme exhaust for $200 off, here ya go. $1,025.

Oh, I also have my stock Ti exhaust with a temporary fix available too for $250. They have 65,000 miles on them. These would be awesome for someone with a non Z06 that wants the Ti Z06 system for peanuts. These I definitely will not ship.

Meldog, I’m not sure all of your info is correct. I cannot find info anywhere that Borla owns Corsa, but I did make a formal inquiry.
As for the sound listing, the only Corsa’s available new are the Xtreme and Sport. From what I’ve observed in discussions here, it seems like the Sport and Indy Pace were very close in sound, with the Touring reportedly a little mellower. I think there was too much overlap so they narrowed the choices.
I just sold my Ti System as well, for the Sport which is just a bit louder but not offensive to my old ears also.

Just in case there is anyone tuning in that is interested what the SLP Loudmouth DB reading:

2004 Z06 , Stock except SLP Loudmouth and drop in filter panel. Stock headers and cats.
meter is 50ft from the car
dB-a setting
slow sample rate
~5ft from the ground
full throttle 2nd gear at the rev limiter.

5 samples:

1. 103dB
2. 103dB
3. 102dB
4. 103dB
5. 103dB

This is standard(ish) protocol for SCCA Solo national events. Anything over 100dB could result in disqualification.

Dont let the "low" dB readings fool you, this thing is LOUD. Remember, samples are taken at 50 ft from the car.

 

SLP’s are aptly named. Everyone I’ve ever seen was loud....really loud.
