I was watching a video of someone, that did a bypass on stock exhaust.
Has anyone here done that? If so how does it sound? I can't spend alot this year as i'm retiring and moving to Ky. As the wife found a house that is about double the price of what we agreed on, there goes my pay money.

It will make a little difference in the exhaust note, but a Ti with the bypass or a used aftermarket system would be better. Or you can go with some electric cutouts which will make a big difference in the sound.
The bypass is one that many do to the titanium Z06 exhaust. I don't recall it being done to the stock exhaust.
Used Z06 systems can be found relatively cheaply.
It's the other way around. Many have done the bypass mod to the stock exhaust. The bypass isn't usually done to the titanium exhaust because of the difficulty in welding titanium. Titanium needs to be welded within an Argon gas flow. The Argon gas need to be 99.999% pure. I wasn't able to find any local welding shops that would agree to weld on my Z06 titanium exhaust.
Stock exhaust systems can be found cheap or even free. I paid $500 for my used Z06 titanium system.
I did this mod with my OE exhaust system, and there is a bit of gain in sound, especially at WOT.
But, I ended up just going all the way with DMH cutouts and have NEVER looked back.
It really depends on what you are actually looking for. If you want really loud, the bypass mod is not really going to meet your standard, and unless you have a "guy" that will take the time to do it right (ie cut a big enough hole in the pipe-turn and then fabricate an oval tube to connect) then this could be done poorly and still $$$
Tell us more about what your outcome is really targeted on.
Several here have done it. I did it on mine and think it sounds really good, plus it doesn't have any drone. Here's a clip of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddprnsjq9Fs
What diameter is the best bypass pipe? I understand it can be from 1 inch to 2 inch. Is the lack of exhaust valve back-pressure a problem? (The back-pressure helps close the valve, preventing a burned valve).
OP, where are you moving to in KY? I'm in NKY/Cincinnati area that I'll sell you a stock C5 bypassed exhaust WITH integrated 2-bolt flanges for cheap...the flanges are right after the swaybat allowing you to remove it without having to get the rear end 20 feet in the air.
It served as a trial approach before I touched my Ti setup but the cost in materials for the Ti exhaust was not worth it.
So the custom stock bypassed exhaust collects dust in the garage.
Apologies for necro-ing a dead thread and if I am breaking community rules....but I am interested in this mod as well.
I have a 2004 C5 convertible with 56k miles that has long tube headers, no cats and an X-Pipe with the stock exhaust on it still...and I am looking to make it louder and breath far better for less.
How much can you expect for a muffler shop to quote you for this work? I live in the Austin, TX area and so far the cheapest I have seen is $500....yes, it is obviously crazy.

hey i live in round rock and got round rock muffler and auto to do it for 100 that was 3 years ago may be more now
Appreciate the response. I am going to get mine done tomorrow at a shop outside of Austin for $150, likely going with the 1.75 inch bypass - in part as I have full long tubes, no cats and an X-Pipe so it should be pretty loud.

I paid my friend (who didn't give me a discount on material nor labor) 250 to do the bypass on my titanium axle back.. I wouldn't pay more than 150 for a shop to do this on a stainless or mild steel exhaust..
