Only the ignorant call it a "Targa."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Targa_top

""""Targa top, targa for short, is a semi-convertible car body style with a removable roof section and a full width roll bar behind the seats. The term was first used on the 1966 Porsche 911 Targa,[1] and it remains a registered trademark of Porsche AG.[2]"""""

So they remain coupes, but not fixed roof coupes.

coupe=hatchback=targa

frc=fixed roof coupe=hardtop

OK, so in short we'll call them:
"FRC" = Z06 when applicable
Convertible = "vert" = rag top
"Semi-convertible car body style with a removable roof section and a full width roll bar behind the seats, first used on the 1966 Porsche 911 Targa, and it remains a registered trademark of Porsche AG"
Yes?

It's the standard word used in the professional auto press. Look at the Car and Driver magazine Corvette homepage. They refer to it as a targa. Road and Track's Corvette articles also call it as a targa top. Jalopnik too.
Porsche has the trademark, but at this point, it's a generic word for a removable roof. There is nothing wrong with using it in reference to non-Porsche vehicles.

You guys with the newer cars might not remember this, but if IIRC, GM wanted the new ‘68 removable panels in the coupe to be called “targa” tops, but the Porsche trademark was a problem, so they were nicknamed “t tops.” Some people think the “t top” reference had to do with the way the car looked with the tops out. I’ll let historians fight about what’s accurate.

I do know that when the C4 came out, in conversation people started routinely calling the one piece removable top a “targa” as a way to differentiate from the 2 piece design of the C3.

It’s been routine for different marques to put their own spin on terms (“roadster” for instance) that were used in a specific way before. I wouldn’t get too shook up on the application here.

Hey are you calling me ignorant? I use all those brand names, just like I use targa when discussing a vehicle that has a targa! Targa, just had to say it one more time.
Methinks ztheusa searches for "targa" weekly, then tries to, uh, correct them for using this generic term.

Online Conflicts
For the most part, the CF community remains a friendly place where ideas, thoughts, and assistance can be found. Unfortunately, there are times when members forget that this is an Internet forum and issues between members can get out of hand. This includes members turning to the forum to air a personal offline/on-line problem which results in sides being drawn by participating members.

In these situations, it is the forum's role to expeditiously end any conflict for the good of the forum and its membership. The forum's goal is not only to remain family, work, and corporate server safe, it also will not serve as a battleground where offline/on-line personal matters and drama are permitted to be played out in front of other members.

Any thread(s) that contain open bickering, name calling, subtle derogatory messages, "digs," personal attacks, or anything negative in nature will be closed/edited or deleted, and any participating members who post in violation of this rule, will jeopardize their posting privileges.

If any member is being harassed on-line in a thread or privately via PM, they should avoid a confrontation with the offending member and immediately report the problem to a section Moderator via PM, or by clicking on the "report post," icon under their user name.

The Moderator will evaluate the issue and take appropriate action to rectify the situation.

So please play nice or don't play at all.
