I purchased a fidenza last week but haven't installed it yet... Im going to eventually go with a MGW but, I have to finish building my mustang first.(are they really ever "done"? LOL!) so I went with a cheap $70 option.... I'll pop back in here to let you guys know how it goes... im hoping it is quiet considering that the pivot ball is derlin.
Might as well throw my $0.02 worth in the mix.........
I installed a Hurst shifter in my '01, back in '02, right after Hurst added the shifter to their product line. I spent some time with the different springs and adjustments, when I first installed it, and was very happy with it. I experienced no vibrations or rattles, at all.
A couple of years ago, I removed the shifter and "shift box", removed the OE rubber bushings that are part of the shift box retention system, and replaced them with polyurethane bushings. I then reinstalled everything, and went through the adjustments again, just to make sure everything is 100%. I've been happy with it............
When it came time for a shorter shifter, I too read about the vibration and noise.
I decided just to cut an inch off my OE unit and reinstall the ****. All in all it has been great without any unwanted issues. I am sure there are great shifters out there as many have reported, but for me, removing an inch of the OE worked just fine.
I had a MGW installed on my 03 ZO6 yesterday. What a change. No more long throws. No more mushy shifting, or finding a gear. Absolutely worth every dollar I paid for it. It's close throw, really close, and slides into gear with precision in every gear including reverse. No slop, no rattles. I bought it because of the recommendations of people on this site, and I am glad I did. Thank you, I am very pleased.
I ve been having a problem with the shifter sticking while going into gear... I bought a fidenza as a stop gap until I can get a MGW (house remodel) I pulled the console and to my surprise It already has a B&M!!! I heavily weighed the decision to change it out. in the end I figured that since it was apart I'll see if there is a difference... glad I did it pretty much fixed the sticky-ness with the exception of 4th... I'm going to do a fluid change to see if that clears it up completely...

Putting an MGW shifter in my Z is the best thing I've done since I bought it 2 years ago. It is amazing how much better it shifts now. I also did the Anti Venom Mod with 1 washer and a fluid change with Royal Purple Synchromax which also made a noticeable difference. The stock shifter and the seats are my biggest complaints with these cars and with the shifter problem solved it's time to look at seat options.
When I bought my 03 z, it had a c6 ****, not sure if the whole shifter was c6, but the throws seemed long. Bought a Callaway NIB that was supposedly never used, which I believed after inspecting it, and talking with the guy. It's incredibly notchy, and takes so much effort to shift that it slows me down, and knocks my timing off on heel and toe downshifts. Surprising, I thought Callaway made good stuff, but I hate the thing. Thinking of going back to stock shifter, because it's not breaking in.

I also have the stock shifter, except I cut 2" off, 1 from the tope and 1 from the bottom, then added threads down to the taper. With certain shift ***** the boot looks like an egg in a nest. I also did a single washer anti venom. I love it just like it is.

My 04Z came with an early production MGW. Very difficult to find gates. kinda ratchety. I replaced it with a Hinson. Upshifting is straight forward.and with practice rowing the gears is quick. The gate springs are a bit stiff so downshifting requires an extra effort than most girls won't like.
YMMV

This is the new MGW I had installed a couple of days ago. It's very short with very shor tight shifting.. I really like it compared to the original
shifter

I don't know anything about the Callaway, I have the B&M Sport and did the "anti venom" mod and like it, I'd just try doing the mod if I was you. It's very easy and cost next to nothing.
“Toque” (real name Mark) is a legendary former forum member who had one of the sweetest C5Z’s you will ever see, and had a TON of helpful info for stuff we can do with our cars. As much as I like to teach people new stuff, his website explains the mechanism. I have a single washer in mine.
As I think I mentioned earlier I took 2” out of my stock shifter. Here’s a pic:
