it last longer and protects it from environment?
Once that cast foam latex weatherstripping starts to break down and deteriorate about the only thing to do is replace it. I know it's expensive but there is no other choice ............IMO anyway .
I used dielectric grease on all my weatherstripping. I used some generic stuff from an auto parts store, but I think it's basically the same stuff in the actual GM brand weatherstripping lube, dielectric grease.

Years ago I contacted a local body shop about what product they would recommend to keep the weatherstripping in good, pliable shape. They recommended some natural silicone lubricant. Bought a can of it and it works very well in treating the weatherstripping. Just another alternative to consider.

I also use electrical dilation grease every other year since I am not sure which one protects the best.
its not really expensive to replace and pretty easy to do as well
The OEM weather strip to roof @ rear of Targa top is very expensive> I know you can get after market for around $160.00 but I don't know how well a/m weather strip is to oem far as fit
and sealing the targa top. I notice a/m weather strip has no sealant tape on like oem weather strip at certain spots. Have you replace one on your car?

I paid some where in the neighborhood of $300 for a factory NOS-OEM B pillar W/S for mine. Got it off of eBay
From what i have read, most of those aftermarket W/S are joined together at the corners with 45 degree glue joints verses the OEM which is injection molded as one piece.
Weather stripping is expensive..
I have a convertible 98 c5 and the 6 little 8-10" pieces I need are over $600.00.. I think it's in the expensive ball park.. I am gonna have to do it soon tho, along with a new top..
What is the procedure for using dielectric grease on the rubber seals? It seems like it would be very messy.
It is messy. I used rubber gloves. Applied the grease to my fingers and then rub it onto the weatherstripping. Wiped off excess with a microfiber towel.
The next day I could see greasy areas on my door cards and other places it shouldn't be. But it cleaned up easy with isopropyl alcohol.
