Fronts (265/40-17) are getting hard to find. Bridgestone RE760s are reasonable, if you can find them. Your only choices to the best of my knowledge are Bridgestone, Toyo, Goodyear, and Michelin, the latter two being ,as you said, pricey. The rears (295/35-18) are easier to find. I had a quote from the local Chev dealer last November for $792 I think, including mounting and balancing, for Toyo Proxes. Bought a full set of Bridgestone RE760s earlier this month. Came to $785 with shipping and free road hazard.. About your other option would be to go to 275/40s or 255/40s in front to stay close to stock sizes.

I bought a set of TOYO PROXES T1 SPORT in the stock Z06 sizes for my 2002 Z06. Awesome tires. Got them just before Christmas and drove my Z 1000 miles from Kentucky to Louisiana. For 9 hours of the 13.5 hour drive, it was moderate to heavy rain and I was able to keep going at 70 MPH for most of the way and the car was firmly planted. Would have never been able to do that on the Goodyears. Grip is also excellent in the dry. You can get a set for about $750 from Jegs and that is with free shipping. You just need find a place to install them.
Continental Extreme Contact Sports. You'll have to use 275/40 or 255/40 on the front in place of the stock 265/40, but they are excellent tires, just as good as the Michelins for alot less money. I'm running 275/40 front and 295/35 rear on my 02Z. I currently have over 5k miles on them and they are awesome!
