Default Need tire help please! In shock!!!

Hello all.

Years ago I dumped the stock run flats for Pirelli Pzero Neros. The Pirelli tires are still on my 1999 C5. They ride super quiet, great on wet or dry roads, give good tread wear and are completely predictable in handling. My problem is that my C5 spends a lot of time in the garage and these tires are way overdue for replacement due to age, even though they look fine. I'm planning on a 3000 mile drive down and back to Florida at highway speeds, so I want to be safe.

That being said, I went to buy a new set and they are DISCONTINUED.

These are the stock sizes (245/45 ZR 17) front, and (275/40 ZR 18) rear on the optional lightweight wheels.

What is the consensus among you C5 owners with these sizes for the quietest, best riding, handling and reasonable tread life to get? I need to order these for installation by next Monday.

I was looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3+ (5 ribs on the front tire, 6 on the rear), but someone noted a loud "howling" sound on the highway. I'm open to all suggestions and brands, but I sure loved those Pirellis.

Please help me out if you can! Thanks ub advance!!!

If you're not planning to replace them with another set of run-flats;

Two years ago and over 8K miles since, I bought the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport. They are incredibly quiet, wear a lot better then I ever imagined (considering the right foot I have ) and they are very "grippy" in the wet. I've been very impressed with these tires and they will not break the bank.

I paid about $700 shipped from SoCal to WA state. Check out the link below and good luck.

How much do you drive your car that you need reasonable tread life?

If you do not drive in any weather that drops below 32 F, I would recommend getting a summer tire. They are generally softer and quieter than all seasons, have better dry traction, as good or better wet traction, and good to about 30,000 miles or so, depending on how you drive.

The latest and greatest is the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, which unfortunately are not yet available in stock C5 sizes. Continental Extreme Contact Sports are very close to the PS4S, and the Michelin Pilot Super Sport is the very good predecessor to the PS4S. If you're looking for something cheaper, the Hankook Ventus V12 and Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 are popular alternatives.

Well, I looked around and the Michelin Pilot Super Sport had the most purchases and best reviews. They seem closest to the specs the Pirelli had. The Continentals had some good reviews but a lot of people complained that they got noisy as they aged. The Potenzas mentioned above were not bad at all (I had a set on an Impala SS once), but when I saw that the Michelins came in for a full set at just under $800 plus shipping with a 2 year road hazard... well, I took the plunge.

Thanks for the quick help. With a little luck they will arrive on-time and I will get to enjoy the first vacation I've had in 5 years.

Did you check Discount Tire Direct? They're currently running a promotion for $100 off $400 on Ebay.

You might want to consider the BFGs since Michelin has discontinued your sizes. The BFG G-Force Comp-2 is an All Season and they come in your sizes. For a summer tire BFG has the BFG G-Force Sport Comp-2s in your sizes.

Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's or Hankook Ventus 12 EVO's non run flats are both great tires IMO . I am currently running the Hankooks on my vert and loved the Indys on my previous C6 .

I put on ACHILLES ATR SPORT TIRES about a year ago. Less than $400 balanced and mounted. Have put about 5000 miles on them. Couldn't be happier! But then, I rarely drive over 100mph.

While the OP has already found his tires, I'll echo the recommendation for the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO tires. Have had them on my car for quite a while and they are very good tires.

How many miles are owners getting out of the Hankook Ventus V12s? I'm currently running a set that have about 14K miles on them and I'm really starting to feel the road, however my C5 is not my daily driver and the tires are now 5 years old.

Hankook Ventus V12 EVO.stock 17 and 18 sizes at Discount tires is what I got and I have been happy with them for years... too bad Hankook doesn't make ZO6 staggered sizes anymore...
