My new used C5 will be my daily driver!
So I will be daily driving my new used C5. It's mixed highway and townie driving; what kind of mechanical challenges will the stress of driving a 21 year old car to work cause?

Congrats! I am jealous. If I didn't have to drive a company paid for vehicle I would definitely daily drive my Z. It won't hurt a thing to DD it as said above, just treat it properly and it should prove to be dependable.

I DD my Z, no problem, it's a car. Just consider how old fluids and all are and replacing anything that needs doing.

2016 C5 of the Year Finalist
My work commute is mainly inner city driving, stop & go driving at 30mph average.
After work when I have extra time, I'll take the "scenic" interstate route for a more spirited drive home!
As others have said, keep it well maintained and it'll yield smiles for miles!

Encouraged...
Thanks for the good news, I am encouraged. This C5 was exceptionally well cared for and only travelled 4k miles in 14 years!
Fluids were replaced, including synthetic ATF for transmission. Likes to graunch going into 4th once when cold - might add friction modifier to get the blockers to synch the gears better. As this is an early C5 with paper blockers, maybe I should go back to Dexron III.
All else seems good.

Melting Slicks
Should be fine, i'm daily driving my 1999 6 speed convertible since September , I had it parked in garage almost 4 1/2 years while driving my old 1994 Pontiac Grand Am beater car.
Just fix anything that breaks as it happens, or seems like it needs attention.
Congrats on your new car!
Picture of it?

C5's are generally very dependable depending on maitenance as with any vehicle. After 21 years and sitting for 4 years Since you stated that all of the fluids have recently been changed I would keep an eye on belts, hoses and the harmonic balancer.

I really miss Daily driving my z06. The commute to work is short enough now that I either ride my bike or drive my truck. I felt bad driving the car not even far enough to get oil temps above 135 degrees.

Keep up on the maintenance and the car should be fine - the C5 is actually a very reliable platform. Good luck - driving it should put a smile on your face every day.

If you already have not checked the date codes on the tires I would advise you to. Six years and tires are considered end of life.
I have seen brand new tires destroyed because of not being sold before the six year date.

I wish i could daily mine! I don't see there being any problems, just keep up on maintenance and fix any little issues as they come up and you'll be good.

What he said, it's best to know how old those tires are especially if you're going to daily drive it. You didn't include where you live and that would make a difference of the tire you choose if you need new ones.

To me , it was so enjoyable to start the work day with a drive in my vette. I’m retired now and the car is a Daily Driver . I just don’t want to drive another car . Ever . I’ve had no problems , I got a new battery and tires , that’s it ! Rain , snow , no problem . Major snow it’s not good , I don’t go out in major snow . Also , daily drivers don’t have electrical problems generally

I daily mine and the only complaints I had were lack of a proper cup holder, cassette player and 20 year old plastic making noises.
I replaced the tape player with a double din touch screen, added a back up camera and put in more supportive seats. I'm in process of going through all the panels and fixing the broken tabs and clips but this car is no different than any other 20 year old car on the road...beside the obvious smile it puts on my face every time i touch the loud pedal .

In fact I've been running Syncromesh in mine since I rebuilt it almost 30k ago.
When I switched to Royal purple synthetic ATF, my second gear sycro bit the dust. I'm sure it was coincidental, but I would stear clear of the Synthetic stuff, but that's just me.
