Windshield Replacement
So it's time to replace my windshield. I have full glass coverage (Good thing...).
So my insurance cut me a check for the windshield for around $150. I make the appointment, and the glass company says I may need the molding, and the molding is $859.......EIGHT HUNDRED FIFTY-NINE! They contact my insurance and the insurance did cut me another check to cover it. So just about $1000 to replace the windshield.
Last I heard this molding was like $250. What happened? Is GM in short supply and marking these things up?

And do not use safelite. There are many posts on this. Look at Pilkington or PPG/PGW. I would not let Safelite near my car after seeing what they installed in a co-workers car, optical quality, how fast it pitted and reading all the horror stories about poor workmanship and poor glass. I've had 2 recent Pilkington and several PPG in the past with complete satisfaction - and I am picky. My glass guy says he prefers Pilkington - likes the quality overall.

Shoot I just did mine and the lowest was $800 from safe-lite and $1200 from a local installer.
Safe-lite did my wife's Jeep and got no issues with it. No leaks or scratches.
Local installer had a GM glass for my vette so I paid the $1200. My statefarm doesn't offer glass replacement. They only offer a local installer with a discount.
Mine's going back where it was painted when it gets a windshield, that way I get it replaced with the proper Z06 specific windshield and also sealed correctly. I hear they're a real bitch to seal right.
I paid 225 installed for a new (non-hud) windshield installed. I re-used the weatherstrip, was very easy to take off, just a few screws to remove up by where the targa latches are. When you call the companies they of course say we can't guarantee that we can re-use the weatherstripping, so I took it off myself carefully, took only 10 minutes.

NON HUD windshield is $350 direct replacement, the molding is the tough part. GM no longer makes the upper molding, at least for FRC, or so I've been told.
