Default Z06 ls6

I have been approached to buy an LS6 block, crank, and heads. The price is waay sweet. But you know how that goes.
It is supposed to be out of a Z06 from the 02-03 era.
what should i look for to make sure it is what he claims (casting numbers?). My luck i will buy it only to find out its an ls1 or some pickup truck motor.
Where should i be looking for damage (cracks etc)?

Could write a small book honestly. From detecting hidden milkshake all the way cam bearings you can't tell squeak until you run the engine.

What's your plan for the engine? That would help guide how to approach this.

Was thinking of putting it in a 88 Fiero. Would make an awesome little toy.

If that's the case I'd focus on getting a complete 5.3 truck engine minus intake. Put on an LS1/6 intake and use that. Very cheap and 300hp, swap in a little cam while its on the ground.

Putting an engine together can be a challenging and expensive. I'd focus on staying simple and cost effective.

Yes versus iron for the 5.3

80 pounds. If you have to ask very basic specs such as that, I'd stay away from buying any incomplete motor, or project car.

Your money, but I think this is a dreamer thread.
