I knew it was April or May of 2003, found the paperwork from buying it, April 21 2003.
I was 25 then now I'm 40, the car is a 1999 Convertible with 6 speed, no mods yet still. Lol
When I bought the car a couple of friends pretty much told me I was a idiot for buying a Corvette, and kept telling me I couldn't afford it, it would get repossessed.
I was insulted a bit but realized they were just jealous they couldn't have a Corvette.
I worked 6 days a week and sometimes 2 jobs at once(making it 7 days a week) to make my payments, but that was ok I had a Corvette convertible.
I always wanted to get a new black top with canvas material and a heated rear window, before any mods.
I found a place in 2009 right after I got car payed off that was going to put on a new Robbins top, very best black that company made for my year for 995.00 tax, labor, parts, top in Tempe Arizona.
The only catch was they needed the car for a few days and didn't shuttle customers home, 30-35 miles each way.
Tried to get wife (now ex wife) to meet me there and she talked me out of doing it, then as you all know how this can easily happen, my new top $$ ended up getting spent on other stuff and today it still has the white vinyl top.
One plus about the white top is I believe in summer it will keep car cooler than a black top, Phoenix Arizona area is just so awful hot in summer.
As for mods, things have changed for what to do since buying it, at one time I was going to do a cam and headers, then added on better heads and intake to the plan.
Then I found out about supercharger that fits under stock hood, then had idea of putting in a LS7 crate or LS3 crate, so many choices!
I did do 2 minor cosmetic mods, bought used chrome wagon wheels and put on a stock cat back with factory chrome tips, after one of the flanges broke on original cat back to catalytic converter flange.
Thinking Corvette didn't have chrome tips on 1999 model, that or this car just didn't have them?
One other reason for no mods is another vehicle that has been worked on and still needs upgrades, my 1965 C10 short bed pickup I've had since I was 17.
I put a 396 big block and TH400 in it, converted to power steering, power front disc brakes, suspension and steering rebuild, all while having the Corvette.
Of course now I want to put a LS and overdrive in the old pickup.
