Like a few of us my gas gauge gets hung up around !/2 full and then dives to "low fuel" with about 3 gallons left in the tank. Diet of 20z Techron made a big improvement. Got a little lazy and due to cost quit using the additive but strictly use Chevron gas. Problem starting to come back.
With the 2 tank design and sensors involved. What will give me the best results using 20z Techron? Is the problem in tank 1 (under half) or tank 2 (over half)? Should the additive be added after 8 gallons to get more in to tank 2? Only fill up 8 gallons to work on tank 1? Should the car sit for a while with Techron to let it soak or does it need to get through the system?
As mentioned Techron worked well before. Just want to use it the best way possible. No way the tanks are coming out of the car.

The tanks on a 02 do not have to come out. There is an access to them on the rear of the tanks. Pull your codes to see what side is giving you the problem

Glenn, I never had the problem but knew about it before buying my '04 C5 almost 4 years ago. I decided to put a can of Techron 10 oz in at every other fill up using only shell gas. There were two previous owners and I did not know what gas they used. So far no issues. My SWAG to fix, dump some more Techron in and when the gauge returns to normal, use on a regular basis. JMHO. I have a 2001 and had the problem. I tried the Techron and it did cure the problem for a short while. I then decided to just pull the units out of the tanks and cleaned them with lacquer thinner. When I removed them I poured tectron directly on the surface of the board of the sending unit. It did nothing to dissolve the black discoloration after about 30 minutes. I then used a soft brush with lacquer thinner and it cleaned the contact surface to a like new finish.
I am not saying that over time sloshing around in the fuel tanks that Tectron would not clean them enough to work.
In my situation it was not that bad a job to just remove the units and clean them manually. I add a can of Tectron about every six months just for security. No problems for over three years now.
Techron did cure mine. I used chevron gas and the 20 oz bottle for 7-8 months when I found out I had the problem. I also let the car sit for 1-2 weeks at a time or longer if I didn't need it to let the techron work it's magic. Just need to be patient. I know it won't work for everybody but that's what fixed mine.

If you want to keep trying Techron, which has worked well many times, just add it when the tank gets near empty (1/4 tank or less) and then fill the car up. Since it is a concentrate, it will mix well with the incoming gas and be distributed to both tanks. It wouldn't hurt to let the car sit for a little while to let the Techron do its thing.
I had problems with my fuel gauge at first dropping to empty then not working below half. Techron And Costco Fuel helped clear mine up and not had a problem in many years. For anyone too say that the Techron did not help them after they used it and went to something else that did should consider that the Techron must of come in to play to help.

I used Techron every fill up for 3 months with no results. Gave up on it and stopped using it. I did some research on different brands of gas and Shell V-Power had the most detergents and most PEA(active ingredient in Techron) After two months of not using Techron, I filled up with Shell V-power, the gauge started working and I have not had a problem since. It is the only gas I use now. Techron may have helped, but it seems to me the Shell gas was the answer. I do dump a bottle of Techron in it when I put it in storage. Can't hurt.
Going to switch to Shell V-Power after this last tank with 20z Techron. I think it is disappointing that with a strict diet of Chevron (without using more additive) I had the problem creep back. Will report back on Techron vs V-Power.
