Stock exhaust tip removal?
Dumb question, but how are the stock exhaust tips removed?
I see no screws, only two small crimped tabs on each. Do you just pry those tabs open, or is there some other means to remove them? They look like they may be press-fitted on...???

I'm thinking about plasti-dipping my lower rear panel and want to take the tips off. I'll cover the pipes and I think I can get the underside painted that way.

The tips on my 04 factory cat back system were tack welded into place. Might have been different on earlier year C5's.
Changed my cat back to aftermarket nearly 10 years ago when the car had less than 8K mies. Cat backs were stored in my shed until 2 weeks ago when I decided to clean out the shed for more room. Couldn't give away the almost new OEM cat back system.

I have a set of stock mufflers in my basement and on them the chrome tips are tack welded on. Not sure if GM would change that method of affixing the tips to the mufflers over the 2001-2004 model years.

It's an '02. I'm pretty sure now it's tack welded. At first glance, it looked like it had tabs that were crimped to hold them on, but that's not the case.
