Default Stock exhaust tip removal?

Dumb question, but how are the stock exhaust tips removed?
I see no screws, only two small crimped tabs on each. Do you just pry those tabs open, or is there some other means to remove them? They look like they may be press-fitted on...???

Mine were welded on, but what are you trying to do? Change just the tips?

I don't see any welds, just what looks like two crimp tabs on each tip - at the rear of the tips.

I'm thinking about plasti-dipping my lower rear panel and want to take the tips off. I'll cover the pipes and I think I can get the underside painted that way.

Were there two tack welds in two notches at the rear of each? Maybe that's what looks like tabs to me.

I have a set of stock mufflers in my basement and on them the chrome tips are tack welded on. Not sure if GM would change that method of affixing the tips to the mufflers over the 2001-2004 model years.

You could always take the the mufflers at bolts. Be easier to work around.

It's an '02. I'm pretty sure now it's tack welded. At first glance, it looked like it had tabs that were crimped to hold them on, but that's not the case.
