Default 2001 battery fit

I'm looking at replacing my AC Delco battery this spring and am having a tough time finding one that fits. The issue is in 2001 Corvette downsized the battery from a 78 to a 75 and shrank to tray area as well. My tray area measures around 10" in length which is not a problem, however the width is only 6 3/4".
My current battery is exactly 6 3/4". I wanted to go with an AGM and both the Optima and Odyssey width is a little over 7", which would be too wide.
Have any others ran into this issue recently and what battery are you using.
My local Chevrolet dealer gave me an AC Delco part # of 88861746 which is the Professional series with a 700 CCA. However, I checked with the GM parts outlet on this and they told me that would not fit my car and gave me another part # 88863999 which only has 600 CCA.
This shouldn't be that difficult!

I have a Optima red top in my 2001. I had to get a battery hold down from Optima due to the fact that the stock hold down would let the battery come loose. The stock hold down would not fit into the area on Optima battery properly.

The Optima fit fine in the battery tray allowing room for the hold down on the base. It is a Optima 75-25 battery

I have an '01 and I use an Exide Group 75. I put a battery mat under it, use a battery tender if I don't drive it for a few weeks and have had zero problems the last five years and 25K miles..

I use a mat under my AC Delco as well. If I'm not mistaken, I thought there was a change in the battery configuration mid-year on the 2001's. I believe the top of the line Excide 75 is slightly over 7" in width as well. If you get a chance would you mind measuring your battery tray width and let me know what it is.
I will probably end up going down to the Chevy dealer and staying with the AC Delco. It's amazing that they cropped the tray area so tight on the 2001's that you are limited in battery choices.
I never envisioned any problems until I checked with NAPA on Optima's and was told that they didn't have any that fit my 2001. I then went to Costco and checked on the Interstates they carry and was also told that they didn't have one that would fit the 2001.
I never even thought about it in the past as I just pulled into the Chevy dealer and had them replace the battery. Just this year when I began thinking about switching to an AGM that I began to see that I was limited in what I could do.

I've had an Optima battery in my '01 since '03, after the "leaking battery scare" circulated throughout the C-5 community. Never had an issue with fit, but I do use the "unique" hold down mounting tab that Optima provided with the battery.

It's hard to measure with battery in there, but it looks like the tray is just under 7" and the battery at the bottom is a little about 6 and 3 quarters. About a quarter inch to spare.

Thank you for checking. It sounds like it's the same dimensions as mine!

Looks like 75 and 78 are same width but an inch longer by this chart.

I see that. The other thing that stands out is the width on both is 7 1/8".
I measure my tray at 6 3/4" and you said your was slightly less than 7", probably the same as mine. I wouldn't think either battery would fit!!

I think that is the measurement at the top. The bottom of the battery is less. There is a lip around the top adding that extra bit.

This battery fits my 2001's tray perfectly (just $78)- I installed it back in December and have used it throughout the winter; so far no problems; it is available at Costco:

What am I missing. Your car is the same as mine and the Interstate battery you referenced is 1/2" wider than my battery tray. I previously indicated that I stopped by Costco and checked on this battery and the Costco rep told me that battery wouldn't fit my car!

The battery I bought was a perfect (as in drop in) fit. If you plug your Corvette into the on line search engine at the link it will be a match. However, when I called Costco, the salesperson said that they did not have the battery to fit my car- I actually had to do the search on my iPhone at the store and provide him the part number! So, my prime suspect is that the Costco sales representative have an incorrect system for reference. If a picture is worth a 1,000 words, here are 2,000 words:

That helps! Thanks for your time and I printed off the page from the link and will bring that to Costco.

Good luck, I hope that does the trick for you! Please let me know how it turns out. By the way, judging from your profile photo, our cars might be twins. My car a 2001 quicksilver convertible, black top and interior:

After checking various suppliers for batteries I went to my local Wal Mart and purchased a Group 78 N battery. This battery has 800 cold cranking amps and a full replacement warranty for I believe the first 3 years, (could be longer, I don't remember). Cost was around $93.00. I replaced it 22 months ago and have had no problems with it. The good thing is I can have it warrantied at any Wal Mart in the country 7 days a week.

8VETTE7-Thanks for that information!

OP- I bought my car last December and according to Carfax it has had at least 3 previous owners. My car came with no maintenance records (other than Carfax reported maintenance and some very old Chevrolet records); so I have no idea what, if any modifications, had been done to my car. I had wondered if there is a way to tell if these were Z-06 calipers, aftermarket calipers, or simply a very good paint job on the original calipers. Sounds like there is no way to know for certain.
