I'm on my third C5. I first had a '98 Coupe without HUD, then a '99 coupe with HUD. This one's an '04 Z with HUD.
It seems to work properly, but is not bright enough to be useful during daylight. However, at night, I end up turning the brightness down so it's not overpowering. I cannot for the life of me remember if my '99 did the same thing. Does this seem "normal?"
I DO have the correct original HUD windshield and I have had the dash apart and know that the pins are all plugged in properly.
I have a '99 coupe and an '03 Z06, the 99's HUD is noticeably brighter and just an overall cleaner looking display day or night. Both have their factory windshields btw
I can see the HUD in my '02 easily during the day unless I wear polarized sunglasses and then it is a little bit tough to see but I can still see it. At night I have to turn it way down.

I must admit that a trip without sunglasses today did make it a bit better. When I thought a bit more it dawned on me that I never ever wore sunglasses until about a year ago. And being 58 years old, maybe my eyes just aren’t what they used to be.

These older systems were not LED. Brightness of the HUD starts out at a minimal level so break-in fits the customer desire. During break-in, the display brightness drops like a plasma display.
Maintaining the brightness at minimum increases the life

I agree with most. During the day I can see it fine until I put on sunglasses, then it's really dim. At night, I have to turn it down cause it's just too bright.
I just bought my second C5 a week ago and couldn't figure out what was wrong with the HUD because I couldn't see it in daytime. Then I realized my prior car had tinted windows which cut down the glare.
I took this car to get tinted yesterday and yep, now the HUD is easy to see.
